Re: Your GOP Pick
There's plenty of evidence to support Bigfoot, Area 51, and the 9/11 conspiracy. IMO much more so than anything pertaining to "6000yo Earth". As far as GOP contenders, I hope Trump gets them all in the chopper and it lands gold plated nose first into one of his garrish buildings. I thought everyone...

Re: marble polishing query
You're overthinking this. 0.003? In terms of flatness over several feet I'd recommend thinking in terms of sixteenths. I can guarantee that no passersby will notice the lack of flatness, though I do understand the quest for perfection. You can spend days on this project or you can get it done in a c...

Re: Volga Blue slabs with severe surface problem
I am puzzled by the pits in your Volga Blue, because it is nearly mono-mineralic. Geologically it is an anorthosite, composed largely of labradorite, a calcium-sodium aluminosilicate mineral. Typically its accessory minerals are magnesium- and iron-rich silicates and ilmenite [titanium-iron oxide]....

Re: (Need help) Rodding problem
We use fiberglass rod and occasionally stainless all thread on very fragile pieces. I'm not sure what's causing your problem. I've noted that drying the slot with a torch can cause fissures but you said you use air. All I can think of is mixing your adhesive too hot.

Re: Volga Blue slabs with severe surface problem
I'd be hesitant to use a razor blade on Volga Blue. It will scratch when scraping or shaving it the same as a marble will.

Depends on the tech. They sent one to us that had no idea what he was doing that we ending up teaching about stone routers and he also cut his hand badly on our machine during his learning phase.Dan R. wrote:I would think that NW would know more about that machine than anyone.

Re: Consumer w/ question about faulty install- input appreci
OP, I didn't mean that as an attack in any way. Different shops price things differently. Some break the price out between labor and material and some don't. And I agree that price doesn't always guarantee quality. But the more expensive prices have a higher probability of being of sound quality tha...

Re: Consumer w/ question about faulty install- input appreci
Surely you must realize that price and quality are fully relevant to each other. Would you expect a Cadillac and a Kia to be of the same build quality? What about if someone offered you some other product for a very low price? You can have something cheap, fast, or good. Sometimes you can pick two. ...

When I first started reading this I thought that with some help the seam could be made to look a bit nicer and be fine. After seeing the miters I have to say that the gluing looks pretty bad. The seam could be made to look better if the glue matched a bit better, the seam was tighter, and maybe surf...

I have a handful of 2cm Shitake remnants that are roughly 48" long. I'm not sure how wide. I think they are just 22-24" wide but I will double check.

Re: Oversized Island Fee
I don't start thinking about extra cost to install until it gets a good bit bigger than 4'x6'. I really don't add until the installation is enough of a logistical issue to warrant it. We're already making a good bit more on a job with a big island for comparatively less cost per sq ft (less polishin...

It's totally doable. I'd do it yourself. You will learn a lot about your saw that will come in handy.

Re: what is a good fabcenter to buy
We're getting a bit faster every week with it. It's still faster right now for us to cut most jobs on the bridge saw and mostly just use the fabcenter for routering. We utilize the saw on the UFC for complex layouts, Slabsmith jobs, and some repetitive layouts. For those of you with a fabcenter, do ...

Re: start up questions
I started with an Accuglide rail saw five years ago and a homemade wooden table in my driveway. We cut a lot of tops (or we thought so at the time) in the first year with that saw and bought a Sawing Systems saw as soon as I was able. Like the others mentioned, it is a good saw for the money. Althou...

Re: what is a good fabcenter to buy
We installed a Northwood UFC in July. It's been a great machine so far but it does have its limitations. If you're doing a kitchen a day or less I'd consider it but if you have plans of 2+ per day I would just buy the router and apply the savings to a CNC saw at some point down the road. Overall we'...

Any trailer dealer can order you a trailer with whatever height you want. It doesn't generally affect the price that much.

We bought a set of the Integra clamps recently and like them pretty well except for the price! My only complaint with them is it is somewhat challenging to test fit large marble pieces without blowing them out. It was our first full slab mitered marble island though so some fault there would be on t...
