Re: HELP PLEASE - Issues With Granite Installation
A Happy Ending... We just had SFA Member and all-around-great-guy Mark Gamble install replacement granite this weekend. Unfortunately he was unable to find a supplier who had any "Matrix" (which was what we were hoping for, if only for the opportunity to be able to prove to our previous "fabricator"...

Re: HELP PLEASE - Issues With Granite Installation
Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'd just like to say that I'm not a litigious or vindictive person - I doubt it would end up being worth my while to take these people to court - certainly not anything involving hiring an attorney or anything more than trying to make a claim in small claims court. I...

UPDATE - With More Photos of my Granite Heartache...
Hey, everyone. A couple of you had requested more photos of our granite. I've finally taken some more shots with a better lighting setup - they are linked at the bottom of this post. We've had a few people in to look at the "craftsmanship" and they all said that they would not be able to work with t...

Re: HELP PLEASE - Issues With Granite Installation
If anyone out there has any sample photos of work they've done using "Matrix" granite that they are willing to share, I would really appreciate it. Detail photos of the edges and cutouts would be ideal. Thanks!

Re: HELP PLEASE - Issues With Granite Installation
I am the odd one out (which is very uncommon in forums - it is surprising that everybody has the same opinion..........is that not suspicious???) making me the villian of the story, well I am a law student and I was looking for granite info for my case project of 'fumes emanating from granite count...

Re: HELP PLEASE - Issues With Granite Installation
The SFA exists as fabricators to help other fabricators. To help competitors and friends to become better at what they do. Many of us at one point or another did mediochre work because we didn't know any better. There is no shame, nothing wrong with that. The problem is when people have no interest...

Re: HELP PLEASE - Issues With Granite Installation
Sorry... quick follow-up... I should note that the slab over top of the kitchen sink is not affixed and is pulled out slightly from the wall, so the positioning of the sink in the cutout is not final. Just to be clear that the misalignment of the kitchen sink in the photos is not part of the workman...

Re: HELP PLEASE - Issues With Granite Installation
Interestingly, I forwarded my "stone fabricator" some quotes from (and a link to) this thread. And then, magically, a stranger who has come here "just looking for some granite info" decides to post and be the "voice of reason"... with their first post on the board. Tell me, "PT", why was your first ...

Re: HELP PLEASE - Issues With Granite Installation
Thanks everyone for you kind words and valued opinions. I found out about SFA through Mark Gamble, who is sort of "hosting" a long-running granite thread on a local consumer-oriented site. He's very helpful to the members of that particular site, and (ironically) he answered my questions about "Matr...

Re: HELP PLEASE - Issues With Granite Installation
No, he wasn't the cheapest at all. He was priced competitively, but we're not "bottom line" shoppers - we understand that quality costs money. We shopped around and, ironically, fell in love with the granite that he now claims is the cause of the so-called "minor variances". We picked him due to a c...

HELP PLEASE - Issues With Granite Installation
Hi, everyone. I am having a terrible time with the company I hired to fabricate and install the granite countertops in my new home and I wonder if I could solicit some opinions on the matter. I should mention that they do not appear to be members of the SFA. We went to their shop and picked out a sl...
