My guess from the photo is a dolomitic marble but the only true way to find out is to do the tests that Dave has mentioned above. A true quartzite will not ever etch! And there is no geological category of a "soft quartzite". The stone is either a quartzite or not.

The Tenax Quartz Toner is an enhancing sealer for engineered stone so make sure to test this before using and make sure your customer likes the "enhancement" it can give on some colors.

Otherwise, Tenax also has Quartz Sheild that is a sealer for engineered stone without any enhancement effects.

A hard quartzite should be getting cut at about 1300 to 1600rpm with a 14" blade but this can vary per manufacturer as well. Cutting at the wrong rpm will glaze over diamonds pretty fast.

This is definitely Lumen and it is more like a dolomitic marble. I had bought some of this stone from Brothers in Granite out of Brazil many years ago. It is beautiful backlit and the stock I had was full of small fissures as well.
