Angelo Albani, RIP
Sig Angelo Albani, the founder of Omag, fell victim to the Corona virus on March 17th. He was one of the people responsible for the CNC revolution in the stone industry and Omag equipment is in use world wide. I worked with Mr. Albani for about 25 years, I enjoyed his friendship and watched his fami...

I am familiar with most of the CNC’s of that era, and even helped design some, but this is a new one. I would strongly suggest that you pass on this, otherwise you will have a nightmare on your hands. As all of the others have said, stay away. Hi Kim,
I have some pictures, however they were taken before anything was cleaned up and limestone is very messy. I will ask GMM who now has the machine in Charlotte to take some additional pictures. Thanks for your interest.

Re: Anyone else need to vent?
The old saying that the customer is always right, even when they are wrong, still holds true. They are the ones who are helping pay our mortgages, for our new car, the stuff in our shops and maybe the kid’s tuition. True sometimes we have to bite our tongues, but anyone who is married or has a girl ...

Contact Taf at GMM USA (704-737-1378) and ask him who has a GMM Sirio bridge polisher in your area. In India the final polishing on Absolute Black is usually performed on such machines. Morris Granite should certainly be able to do the work. They are in western IL though. Also Percoco marble in Denv...

GMM Techna 36 A Bridge Saw
I have a customer in the mid West who is replacing a GMM Techna 36 A with a larger GMM machine. The Techna was made in 2003 and has run exclusively on limestone. It has a tilting table with manual rotation. Replacement cost is approximately $80,000+. Condition is excellent. Price $33,000. John Bergm...

During that time I have had a fair exposure to robotics including being approached by Hitachi to head up all mechanical interfaces for applications east of the Mississippi. IMHO your antici...

Re: Spindle Rebuild Issues - Please weigh in
There are spindle repair companies and spindle repair companies. Some are dicey and some are precision operations. Ekstrom Carlson is universally recognized as a leading company. This is one area where cheap can be very costly. The gentleman from Ireland is right on what procedures that must be foll...

I'm a machinery guy, but I won't go there. Take a close look at your material handling. Too often it is ignored, it's not as sexy as a cnc, but I have seen many a shop wasting time and money in that area. I would include slab unloading and handling, loading and unloading machines, and on the job tec...

Re: Best way to build walls to support bridgesaw
The first rule is to build a support heavy enough as to not compromise the saw, and that there is sufficient footing or slab thickness. Second rule is to make sure that it is relatively level. You will still have to do leveling, but the less needed the better. When I say leveling, I mean the saw rai...

Try Doug Beat Co in Toledo 419-865-4001. They should have a bunch in different sizes. If you don't know the kva's, just give them the horsepower.

Re: Power Company wants to know my Kw. Help?
If you can get 480v at a reasonable cost, go for it. The amperage draw at 480 is less than half the amount at 208 and you pay by amps. My experience has been however that unless 480V is available very nearby, the cost of obtaining the service is astronomical. For many years I ran a large machine bui...

Re: Power Company wants to know my Kw. Help?
Definitely go with 400 amps of incoming power. 200 amps leaves no room for future growth. Plus the electrical code in some localities require a safety factor around 25%. That means they would calculate the full amperage draw with everything running, (that will never happen), and then add 25% or so t...

Re: Lf on 8 hrs. shift for a cnc (profile edge only)
I am not sure what is practical in your shop, but I have always suggested a dual water system, fresh water, (which will be cool), for the through the spindle work, and recycled water for other work. Typically around 5-8% of water is lost through evaporation and the fresh water going through the spin...

My suggestion would be first to call Arthur Plicht (AMC Stone). Arthur knows more about the technical end of Luna 740's than anyone else in the country. His number Is 917-407-5451. He can check the machine and get you running. Art is not an operator however, but an ME and EE. He can probably suigges...

Re: Line polishers?
I think that you will find that most belt polishers are approximately 20' (6 m) in length plus they have a 1 m loading and unloading table as standard equipment at each end. Obviously the dimension will vary between various models and builders. Belt driven equipment has proven far more popular than ...

Hi Teresa,
Give me a call when you get a chance. I am in rural Utah until the end of the week so it may be a little dicey, but leave your number and I will get back to you. Can't believe that Motta was 20 years ago.
All the best,
John B
