Re: Goodbye, Granite..... What do you think?
I agree with Nick - it is about 6 years now since I did my kitchen and bathroom vanities and I'm horrible at keeping things clean. Regardless of how sloppy I am a quick clean and they look like new. The laminate tops which were in the kitchen prior to the stone was stained thanks to my poor maintena...

those finned covers inside computer components? Cam a comment on this - my understanding is that the fins serve to increase cooling efficiency by increasing the contact area with the surrounding air - if you take the fins and imagine them flattened you can see that if you add the vertical area sect...

Nice work and congrats on the family.
In the last pic is that stone that is making up the wall to look like block or is it actual concrete block with the face skimmed to expose the aggregate?

Re: Sued by a Silestone distridutor/ fab shop called Stonewo
Is this for real - clearly the Logos are not very much like each other. It does seem like they are either after putting other local shops out of business to do away with competition and/or after exclusivity on "Stoneworks" although if the latter I cannot realistically see how they can achieve this s...

Re: Debt limit explained
Really Jeff- would you care to clarify why I should think twice about going to any stone related function where you might be present.
I have now thought twice and decided that it will not factor into my decision.

Re: Debt limit explained
……Same as your position on gun ownership etc….. Off topic for my immigrant friend. FYI, my position opinion gun control is that everyone should not be required to own or possess one. And that gun owners (users) be held responsible for their actions). I would welcome this standard in every facet of ...

Re: Debt limit explained
Sorry Dan I fail to see where I was disrespectful in what I posted. I briefly skimmed the thread and that was one of the things that caught my eye. Same as your position on gun ownership etc. All this posting and debating is nice but if people really want to enact change they should get involved in ...

Re: Project Photos
Thanks everyone for the kind comments - yes what I learnt here allowed me to dos some of the cool stuff like the one piece tile and mosaic that wraps around the Kerdi/mud as well as the custom made trim out of the contrasting tile for a color coordinated match. The entire project was quite involved ...

Project Photos
How's everyone doing? Not doing much stone stuff at the moment but I do stop by to browse the threads. I have not seen many project photos lately so I thought I would post some pics of a travertine shower I completed earlier this year. http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb240/rperinpa/CRW_2110450x60...

Re: UK fabricator seeking US employment. Ideally near PHL or
Chris - good luck with the move. Can't help on the job front but I thought I would pass on a tip that I found useful - if you have not done so already go to a bookshop and get a copy of "Living and Working in America - a survival guide" by David Hampshire. It is very useful for someone moving from t...

Securing baseboard made of stone/procelain
Just wondered what people are using to secure baseboard made of stone or porcelain tile to the wall. Would something like silicone caulk be sufficient or should I be looking at other adhesives. I assume mechanical methods are not used.

Re: Porcelain Tile Blade Suggestions
Sadly I have not been able to locate a cheap strain/force gauge and so for now it's still the unscientific method for the ease of cut parameter  Wanted to update the thread with more testing results. I also got a Diamax 5" porcelain turbo blade to test. This blade is very similar to the red 10...

Re: Porcelain Tile Blade Suggestions
Ravin, thanks for the update. The photos do show a difference of the T3 being less chippy. One of the differences of a thin close segment blade as previously mentioned is that being hand welded it acts just like a bridge sawblade and needs to be opened up like one, unlike the T3 that is laser welde...

Well you will be getting an unbiased review from me - no on has attempted to "influence" my review yet  Okay so it seems like now have even more blades to review. Mark Hilbrand of Diamax stopped off today and dropped 3 of their Cyclone blades for review. I did an initial visual inspection of th...

Re: Porcelain Tile Blade Suggestions
Ken - yes there is more stone to be removed but the thicker blade should/will have more diamonds to take care of that. In general I think JC Collins is correct - there are many factors which could result in this such as diamond density, bond type etc rather than just attributing to a single factor s...

Re: Porcelain Tile Blade Suggestions
I'm also not clear why the thicker blade should automatically imply a slower cut. Assuming a similar concentration of diamonds on the front of the blade I would assume the wider surface would be abraded at the same rate as the narrower one. I can see it being an issue if the motor was getting bogged...
