Wax can be used. Same stuff as the butcher block wax. It is usually made of bee's wax and mineral oil. I like this better for my own tops as there is no oily feel to the stone. All depends on what type of soapstone you have. . . Traditional soapstone I'd be suprised that denatured won't take it off. . . Tape usually just takes the oil off the surface and leaves a tape mark, but it's just taking the oil off. Try washing it with soap and water and a scrubby pad you would use...
