Re: stain entering mitered joint on quartz
Well guys, my attempts have not been helpful, even in the mildest way. I purchased and applied: Dupont Stonetech (smelled the best), Lustro Stain Remover Powder, TeClean, the one that seemed to get the greatest support in this forum, and finally a mixture of Comet cleanser with bleach. Took before a...

Re: stain entering mitered joint on quartz
Thank you, Dan. I have felt all along that simple moisture has caused some discoloration, although it is hard to deny that cooking oil around the stove has caused more discoloration (both darker and bigger). I'm attaching a pic ('dishwasher') showing some discoloring on the sides of the quarzite--th...

Re: stain entering mitered joint on quartz
Ken, you are absolutely right! The edge along the side that mates with the stove only has the front edge mitered. SO, that means that the stain (oil) is seeping in, under the polished surface? And does that make any difference in terms of treatment? And just briefly, the oil is also getting into the...

Re: stain entering mitered joint on quartz
Wow! Thanks to everyone helping me to figure this situation out. I really appreciate the experience being brought to bare on this situation. Taking in the comments made me do some thinking (always a dangerous thing for me) and I am submitting 3 additional photographs and I wonder if they add any lig...

Re: stain entering mitered joint on quartz
Wow! You guys are great! My analysis rejects the idea that the glue is causing the stain since a) the stain in not uniform, b) the stain is mostly non-existent on the area of the counter top that does not come into contact with liquids and c) the stain is largest around the stove and specifically th...

Re: stain entering mitered joint on quartz
Well, it would not be the first time I have mis-labeled something. Yes, I believe it is quartzite (it is a natural stone material and hard). I thought the edge was mitered because it was cut at a 45 degree angle at the top to give the edge a squarish look. I have attached a pic that I hope kind of s...

stain entering mitered joint on quartz
Hello everyone. We recently finished building a new house and used a whitish quartz in our kitchen. Early on, we noticed some staining on some edges of the counter top and we brought this to the attention of our fabricator. He said oil was seeping in through the edge joints and advised us to use ace...
