Re: SEAMS ON OUR COUNTERTOP
Thank you to all. Those are all very helpful information. I think I will keep the seams in the original drawing. Another question is about the seams behind the range top. My fabricator will do a whole piece on the range top side without any seams. Will it be a weak points behind the range top and h...

Re: SEAMS ON OUR COUNTERTOP
Agreed. The original drawing from your fabricator looks good and will function better with the seams away from the sink. Sometimes slab yield may somewhat force you to put the seams at the sink. This was the case in my home, so we did a farmhouse sink and put one seam in the middle of the back of th...

Thin Material Jobsite Fab Table - Omni Cubed
Hi all! I don't post much stuff like this, but we just recently launched our awesome jobsite fab table for thin material called the Slim Slab Table HD and I couldn't wait to share it with you. :ugeek: All the parts strap together very compact and can be assembled in less than 3 minutes onsite. This ...

Isopropyl alcohol is better as a disinfectant than denatured and also much less of a health concern. I use it often to clean all kinds of things. Here is a great article comparing the two... https://www.chemicals.co.uk/blog/isopro ... ed-alcohol

Re: Is this installed right??
That piece doesn't look that big. Is is a bar top? Do you have a photo of the top side of it? A piece of trim could make it look better, but it also might be best to remove the particle board and then reinstall the top right on the wall. How wide is the wall under the stone? How big is the overhang?...

Re: Starting in the business...a little help
Here are my thoughts for a new stone fabrication sales person. But first, a question. Do you have previous sales experience in another industry? 1) Kindly explain to your boss that potential customers buy from people they trust, and they will tend to trust an expert more than someone stumbling to an...

Re: James D
I've known James for about 15 years now (time flies!) and he is definitely worthy of our vote for this award. The quality of work from James AND his crew is top notch. He tackles complex jobs that most other fabricators would walk away from (I think he actually lives for that kind of work ;) ). He h...

Re: Fire pit top cracking
Any chance this is from the glass expanding from the heat which is bolted to the stone? In any case seams will prevent it from cracking. Good observation. The coefficient of linear thermal expansion I believe is approximately the same for granite and glass, BUT the glass could be getting hotter tha...

Re: Fire pit top cracking
Hi Bob, The thin set is not letting it expand and contract separate from the base. That will put some stresses in the stone and it will crack near any stress riser (sharp corners, rough spots, etc). The burner won't expand 3/4", so you wouldn't have to leave that big of a gap, but it will look fine ...

Got my radios before the new FCC restrictions Oct 1st.
When they come in, I'll program them and just listen to local repeaters, while I study.
I'll look for that "Ham test on line" you mentioned. Thanks!

Re: Opening new fab shop
Take what you want from what I say and toss out the rest. ;) But you being a controls engineer, consider there may be easier and better ways to make a living. I am a mechanical engineer, not a fabricator, but have been in the business long enough to know that stone fabrication is a VERY difficult bu...

No, but I want to be. I've been looking into it for me and my young daughters to learn.

Have you tried calling them? They are an American company, so hopefully they will be responsive and have the parts you need in stock. If not, I don't mind helping you identify the valves and pointing you to where you can get them.

Re: Best way to build walls to support bridgesaw
Yes, totally agreed Andy. The blocks for this wall would have only cost about $500. The concrete $200-$300 give or take. Then add rebar, mortar, and labor. Even if you pay someone else to completely do it for you it would cost less to do the block wall. Back then, the quotes they were getting were p...

Re: Best way to build walls to support bridgesaw
Back in 2002, I did the design and calculations for a steel bridgesaw frame on a big Italian saw. The shop was planning on moving soon and didn't want to waste money on building a block wall. They built the frame with their own labor then had it blasted and powder coated. It turned out awesome and w...
