Super White
Edit - Pictures below.
I've got a kitchen coming up out of Super White. Never heard of it before, anything special about this stone I should be aware of before I fab?

Ifs a quartzite. Very hard but polishes up nicely. Descent material to work with.

Re: Super White
It can etch so be careful to not leave stuff on it. Otherwise nice stone to work with. We are actually in process on one right now.

Re: Super White
It polishes more like marble than it does granite and it also etches like marble so warn your customers.

Re: Super White
Cuts hard but polishes nicely. I really enjoy working on it. Top polishing was a pain for me. If you get in a jamb, call me and I can tell you what worked for me.

Broken pieces are also fairly easy to repair.

Re: Super White
cuts hard with minimal chipping. polishes nice.
i've had a couple cracks appear though through the fabbing. similar to the way they can in a marinachi.
i actually found it easy to surface polish them out though. I did one on a sink rail in a customers house. went 500-3000 heated it up and it disappeared completely.

Re: Super White
What everyone above said, but it DOES like to break along a fissure in narrow pieces like splash, or doorway-trim. Super easy to repair though.
I liked working it a bunch.

Are you from Emerald? I have had people asking about a granite company over there. The island looks great!

Re: Super White
I know the consensus is that it is quartzite, and of course should be extremely hard.
I recently had to cut a couple of bowls , by hand, in Super White. Two different lots, 4 bath sinks, all cut very much like marble. Seriously, not much different than say Calacutta. I was surprised.

I work for the Ottawa division of GEM Campbell. We mostly do commercial work, but kitchens happen. Work is work at the end of the day. http://www.gemcampbell.com/index.htmlMark Gamble wrote:Are you from Emerald? I have had people asking about a granite company over there. The island looks great!

Re: Super White
That was my experience as well. I cut it with our marble blade, it chipped out on the bottom like crazy with a standard blade. I used a vac-brazed finger bit on the CNC for milling, it did amp a little higher than normal. I feel a typical milling bit would have torn the material apart though. It top polish's nicely to a factory shine but its very easy to remove to much material and get a heavy ripple in the finish.B.Baltzegar wrote:I know the consensus is that it is quartzite, and of course should be extremely hard.

Over all though not a bad material to work with. Thanks for all the pointers!
