Forklift Advice

Hello everyone.

I am in need of some advice buying the right forklift for our shops needs.

We want to accept containers and have a forklift sufficient enough to unload them. We also want to be able to unload a bundle of slabs at a time from the delivery truck with straps that loop around the bottom.

Let me know if I didn't explain myself enough and thanks for any advice you are willing to impart.

You will need a big one. 15,000 lb capacity is a good sized lift that will do what your looking for.

We have a 13,500 lift that we use for all of the above. It will pick up the back tires occasionally so a bigger lift would be safer.

We also have fork position on it. Big forks are damn heavy and a pain to move around for different loads. Even more so than side shift on a big lift.

Like Matt said, my last shop had a 16,000# lift with 10' forks. We fabricated some fork extensions that were about 15' long to help with bundles in the front of the container. No problems doing what you described.
