sealing black honed granite
All right im feeling a little off my game right now.iI recenctly re-honed some ones black absolute kitchen sealed with 511 seal & enhance, looked a little weird maybe because of old underlying sealers so i horse haired with a little water looked great but didnt seem to repel water so i went back after a few days and applied porous plus still looked great.customers came home from vacation 36 to 48 hours after sealing and got a glass ring they say wont come off, what the frick? Every time i think i have this issue figured out its starts to come back in one form or another.so i say humbely can anyone teach an old dog a new trick?does anyone have a recipe for succesfully enhancing and a reliable maintenance program for the customer.I ran searches and coulndt find anything. Thanks Dale @ Austins Romancing The Stone

Hi Dale,
The strongest issue is the mix of chemicals on the surface right now.
They need to come off and you can the start over.
Best regards,
Steven
Try heat and honing powder. Heat first then honing powder, Camerons s the best.

Dale, what Steven said is exactly what I was thinking. You need to get the crap off it first.
You said you re-honed it? What did you re-hone it with? A hog's hair pad isn't going to re-hone it. It needs to be broken back down.
If you truly re-honed it what grit did you start with?

hi guys i re-honed it with 5 inch 400 grit viper and random orbital. horse hair is what i use [sometimes ] to blend a hone job. it works on some materials, but im sure looking forward to trying that powder. I didnt see a mention of prefered sealers?

Re: sealing black honed granite
Surface Treatment Technologies SB sealer would be ideal. If you want to enhance it, their CE color enhancer would go on first, followed by the SB 24 hours later. Top that off with FE for a lifetime warranty against staining and penetration.
the honing powder wont blend in a factory hone, but it will make it look a hell of a lot better. We re-hone ALL materials from the factory. This way, if you ever have an issue, you can blend into your own finish perfectly, no guessing or pulling your hair out trying to make it look the same.

if it is sealed properly yes the only water rings you will et is any minerals left over from the dried water and those would be sitting on top of the sealer just wipe it off. the thing with black is every thing shows up on black

You can blend it nicely with 400g and 600g wet sandpaper, or silicon carbide screen as well. Use with water and by hand ( no machine)
