We have a job coming up using 3cm Calcutta. It's a turn style that is 54" long, 36" tall and 15" wide. Our normal product mix is countertops, but we have done wall panel type work in the distant past. We're familiar with using Integra, Latapoxy and Touchstone products. We've done Calcutta tops previously, but not panels or lams.
I would like to get everyone's input on what their preferred method of laminating would be, what substrate would be best to adhere them to, and what would be the best way to attach the panels to the substrate.

Could one of the mods update my account as active so I could get a little help.

Re: Calcutta wall panels
The last panels we did we used the Keil system anchors screwed to the steel studs in the walls. Our panels were only 2cm though.

Re: Calcutta wall panels
First off. Calcutta is in india. Calacatta is a section of Italy.
we laminate calacatta all the time. We tint tenax crystal. Be sure to seal the lams first as the adhesive will bleed.

Thanks for that clarification. I just thought that it was the different ways of saying the same thing. Now I know the real difference.Alex DiPietro wrote:First off. Calcutta is in india. Calacatta is a section of Italy.

Re: Calcutta wall panels
To Laminate I have used the Touchstone flowing tinted to match but to attach to a wall as long as its not over a certain height (cannot remember the MIA recommended) you can use cement board screwed to the studs then use a knifegrade epoxy like T2000 to set the stone to the cement board. That combo is good for exterior or interior - like I said as long as its not over a certain height. Above the recommended height you will need to have an engineered anchor system for safety reasons.

Re: Calcutta wall panels
Be careful using epoxies with white marbles, even tinted. The epoxies tend to yellow.

Re: Calcutta wall panels
we use Altima Transparent White to laminate white marbles, it doesn't bleed in to the stone and there is no need to seal the seams before lamination.

Re: Calcutta wall panels
Tenax makes a couple of different products for this application.
Tenax Crystal is a very strong bond clear glue that will bond very strong. It is very clear and takes color very well. You could use white tint and do the Lamination. It takes a couple hours or longer to cure(this keeps the glue from turning color) but once its cured it will be extremely strong. http://www.tenax4you.com/SearchResults. ... mit=Search
Tenax Glaxs: Tenax Glaxs is a bi-component adhesive that was designed specifically for white stone like Calacatta. It is guaranteed to not turn yellow for 15 years. It does not create the gray lines when doing the lamination. You don't have to add white color to it. You can if you want. But it is not required. http://www.tenax4you.com/SearchResults. ... mit=Search
If you want to use the anchor system, Tenax makes a product called Domo Epoxy. Its the strongest glue on the planet! Its already white in color. http://www.tenax4you.com/SearchResults. ... mit=Search
This will give you some options, depending on how you want to finish and install the Calacatta.
