Hey Guys-
I just joined the SFA at Surfaces in Las Vegas. We are currently a Tile and Flooring Store in Central Illinois who are looking to branch out into the world of solid surface materials. We currently buy shower parts (curb tops, corner shelves and benches) from a local fabricator, but have been asked more and more frequently if we do countertops. What tools do you guys recommend for a start-up company just getting their feet wet? We would probably start by doing our own in-house shower parts as well as vanity tops and maybe a small kitchen here and there! Thank you for your help!

Re: Newby
I would get a rail saw and a wet polisher and start there. Find a friendly local fabricator and see if you can buy rems from him cuz your not gonna wanna by slabs for a curb top. Hit a workshop and learn a ton! Honestly if I was in your position I would start by talking a fabricator into doing fab only work for you. Get your feet wet with installs and try selling the stuff. If its rolling really good then take the next step and start fabbing your own stuff. If your not able to sell the stuff like you want then I wouldn't spend the time and energy into learning to fabricate it. Just my .02 Cents

Re: Newby
Jesse has some really good points!
Dan's offer is something you shouldn't miss. Where else could you find someone in your area that would open the doors to their shop to an aspiring competitor than a SFA member! Nice job Dan.
Of course, it may be the cold talking, I was just in Chicago Friday, what's wrong with you people? Move! It's too cold for humans to live there.
