Hey everyone, I have a customer that wants her polished white carrera marble to be honed and I'm not sure how to do so. Any procedures need to able to do e on site without removing the countertops. If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them.

random orbital sander with sandpaper and then finish with Cams honing powder.
if you have to get into corners and tight to the walls you also might have to use an oscillating tool like the fein multimaster with the triangular sanding pads

Re: How to Hone white Carrera marble
Get yourself a 220 grit resin pad from Cameron with the honing powder. Run the resin pad with a knuckle dragger at about 600 rpm then use the honing powder with the white pads Cameron has. Super easy

Re: How to Hone white Carrera marble
The easiest way to hone this marble is 2 steps.
1. Cut with a 220 resin pad until it is all consistent and even.
2. Hone with the Soft Cut honing powder and a white pad.
Rinse with water/sponge and buff dry. Seal it with a good impregnator.

Re: How to Hone white Carrera marble
Can you send me a link to the resin pad you think I should use. Sorry for being so needy, I'm just trying to make this process as streamline as possible and I want to shop for the best products.

Re: How to Hone white Carrera marble
Using acid is a tricky deal in a confined finished space.
After the acid solution is applied & thoroughly rinsed, a neutralizer is required to stop the process. Then a clean water rinse.
1. Be careful to capture all of the contaminated water, as it could damage surrounding finishes.
2. Acid honing can leave an uneven finish.
3. Using acid requires effective protective gear.
4. Disposal of the waste water can be an issue, because of the acid.
Acid is a poor choice for this type of project, IMO.

Re: How to Hone white Carrera marble
Agreed - This is an installed project in a home. Not in a shop. Before using acid you need to be open an honest with the customer about the process.

This is terrible advice. Muriatic 50/50 in a kitchen is not safe and is a huge liability. I wouldn't recommend doing this. This is absolutely reckless.

Re: How to Hone white Carrera marble
if you have never used muriatic acid, I would not even attempt this inside a home. we used to use very diluted muriatic acid to remove grout haze on tile years ago, and I had some interesting experiences with it - the fumes from muriatic acid will rust any exposed steel - I opened the back of my truck one morning to find every single tool in my truck with a coating of rust because there was a very small amount of muriatic acid in a bucket that could evaporate.

Re: How to Hone white Carrera marble
I used Heavy Duty Cleaner I got from the Tile Shop. Main ingredient is phosphoric acid. It did a tremendous job. I ended up filling a little more than above the tile in a galvanized tub and setting the tile in for a few minutes each and then rinsing off. (before installation). It's a bathroom floor so the polished finish was not wanted.
not sure how it would work on a countertop because you want to let it soak (and fizz) for a few minutes. Suppose you could border the top somehow.
Also I went through about 6 bottles for 50 or so 18 x 18 tile. When it stops fizzing you've probably exhausted the active acid.
Good luck and wear all your PPE
