I've tried the new SB VRM. The standard SB is "thin" and requires multiple applications on extremely porous stones to fully prepare the stone for the final coat of FE (which gives the protectant a lifetime warranty).
SB VRM -- I called it SB "thick" doesn't feel any thicker -- but it is making my life MUCH easier! Thanks to Eli for selling a single gallon to me (I couldn't justify buying a 5 gallon bucket of it right off the bat).
I seem to be on a "cycle" of unresined Giallo Ornamental and I was applying 5 and 6 coats of standard SB before the stone stopped absorbing water.
2 coats of SB VRM makes it bullet proof. I think one coat might have worked -- I just couldn't believe it so I gave it 2 just to be safe. I might be more open minded next time and give it a more official water test next time after one coat of VRM.
So -- dense stones get one coat of SB -- porous stones get SB VRM -- either way I'm not losing time, I apply one coat of FE the following day and I'm still able to offer a lifetime sealant that I know I can stand behind (and I know STT is standing behind me).
Thanks STT!!
