Please help....I have a soapstone job that has a imprint from my vacuum lift on the stone. It is only visible when the stone is wiped with a wet rag...Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can get these marks on the stone out?

Re: SOAPSTONE
looks like you have a manzelli
I recognize the track it left!
I have not run into this before, but I would start with a good cleaning with a solvent and then re oiling it ( I am assuming it is oiled or waxed)
if nothing else works, then you could always use some honing powder on it - that would definitely take care of it, but you may have to work at blending it to match the original finish.

Re: SOAPSTONE
What causes this? We have had it happen to few different stones.

Re: SOAPSTONE
My guess would be that the vacuum lift was left on the stone overnight or over the weekend when the stone was wet or even slightly damp and the stone pulled some of the oil out of the rubber into the stone. The stone acted like a poultice to the rubber.
You may be able to use an acetone poultice on the stone to pull the oil back out but in this case with it being soapstone the oil didn't penetrate very deep and it may be faster to just resurface the stone in those areas.

Re: SOAPSTONE
I've seen this before, especially on quartz.
I don't know how it will affect soapstone, we used toothpaste and Dawn dish soap to remove it from the quartz surface.

Re: SOAPSTONE
Not sure what causes this. But would be nice to know.
Had this happen a couple of times to an entire bundle of Absolute Black. Only thing that worked was polishing it out.
Pain in the ass and never purchased that material again.

Re: SOAPSTONE
Hi Jim,
Nothing will hurt the soapstone, we resand all our slabs before installing. 80,120 sometimes 220 grit and thats it. Match the finish to one of these grits and go over the whole slab.
Feel free to contact me with questions anytime.
Best,
