Re: Next top polish clinic ?
until you can get to a workshop i'd suggest watching the instructional vids from both cameron and scott m., then practicing on scrap pieces. thats how i learned how to do it, then when you watch other guys techniques you understand why they are doing it a certain way and how it works for them, and how it could work for you.

I'm also a new member, and looking to develop my top polishing technique. I've had pretty good results so far, but am willing to try anything you guys suggest to reach perfection. Problem is I'm in England, and a clinic visit is out of the question. So where do I get these instructional videos from?

I will hopefully be making a video soon. I dont know anything about UK geography, but there are a few guys in the UK that are spectacular stone refinishers. Whether or not they do granite counters I dont know. I will get you some contact info.
the step by step pictures I posted before were deleted because I changed my photobucket account, I will re-post them.
moderators, stuff like my step-by-step pictures, scotts video and other things can be made stickies to help new members find this stuff easily. Perhaps even a sticky room?

Re: Next top polish clinic ?
Scott M's top polish video was what made me know I had to join this site. Until then I never thought a top polish could be done by hand, and yield satisfactory results. We talk about top polishing like its as easy as boiling water. Its one of those skills that really sets you apart from the crowd. I'd say 90% of fabricators and installers cannot adequately polish the surface of any stone. Now lets say shit really hit the fan and we went out of business. I'm fairly confident that I could walk into any shop with my tools, tell the boss I can polish a scratch out of uba tuba, black abs. etc. and be working the next day. Why? Because if someone walked into my shop and did it for me, I'd hire them

well the process has kind of evolved over the last couple of years.
one thing is for sure, you start with rigid, turbo-style discs. these keep the stone flat, the only way you get a ripple with these pads is if youre just not paying attention.
here are the pads; When youre in the field, these are by far the best I have ever used, and I have used just about all of the ones available.

for removing light scratches and anything not grinding the seam flat, I like the ones from DeFusco. They are velcro backed and dont need to be indexed, theyre quick, cheap and do a good job.

Nik, no worries. If you have questions, just ask. There are quite a few different ways to top polish, all are slight variations of Scott's process. There are many people here who can help you. When the time comes I would recommend trying several different ways to see which one youre most comfortable with, they all yield the same excellent results.

Thanks for the links, but I ended up buying a set from Regent Stone Products, NSI's authorized dealer. Regent wasn't out of stock of the 60 grit and I saved two bucks a pad too:
