Hi All,
Please see pictures.
We were able to cut this quartzite job without a seam but needed to seam it to itself for installation purpose only.
Upon installing we noticed an extreme discoloration between the two pieces (originally from the exact same cut) that is unexplainable.
We are baffled and naturally the client is unhappy.
We thought it would possiably dry out (if saturated) but 3 days later it hasn't changed at all.
Any advice or experienced wisdom on treating and/or understanding what happened would be gratefully appreciated.
Thank you,
BC

Re: Extreme Discoloration (Help!)
I would think its just wet? have you tried drying it out with a hair dryer?
Only other thing I could think of is one piece got some sun after you cut them.
Weird

No sun.
We used a torch in spots. No luck.
I will try a hair dryer and time. The home owner needs to see that it will lighten up.
Thank you.

Re: Extreme Discoloration (Help!)
Has either top been sealed? If it was sealed while wet it'll make the dryout period much longer... Also, has any color enhancer been used?

Re: Extreme Discoloration (Help!)
No color enhancer.
No sealer, yet.
But it does have a thick fiber glass backing which could slow the process but we have let it breath for 3 days.
Thank you for all the trouble shooting.

Re: Extreme Discoloration (Help!)
Open cabinet doors and get air circulation underneath, it can take weeks to dry out once installed. Next time don't install wet tops.

Re: Extreme Discoloration (Help!)
So far I had not been convince that it was wet because I can't dry it out with all the speed methods tried.
But we let water sit on the lighter side and it did darken up, proven it is saturated.
I'm glad we seamed the piece now or we would have sealed it on install and it would have taken taken longer dry out.
Thanks for all the quick advice and guidance.
We're a small business so it's been nice to be able to turn to this forum for ideas, confirmation and guidence.

Re: Extreme Discoloration (Help!)
Its wet I am certain. I would guess this was the first top on the aframe and last to be installed therefore holding in all the moisture. I would also suggest putting the seam setter back on it and try to gently push the seam apart. If its that wet the glue will never hold. In the future with macabus type material. Get it extremely dry and seal the crap out of it including the seam edge. Glue can bleed into the seam edge and that is a bigger mess than you want to deal with.
