I've seen some of these in the past but never pursued buying one.
We have several upcoming jobs that the islands are literally a full slab and it seems to be getting more popular in our area. To save the backs of installers and helpers, we need to invest in a carts that can transport the island into the house, flip the island to counter height and slide onto the cabinets with little effort. Something that can handle a step or 3 would be ideal as well.
Let me know what you guys are doing and where I can find one of these. Hoping to be able to get one in our shop by next week if possible to assist with a quartzite 68"x 125" island and similar table top.

Re: Full slab island flip carts
We have similar carts. The one that I was thinking about was the No Lift install system, but that has a 600 pound rating. Not sure that it can handle a full slab of quartzite; according to my math, should be closer to 900-1000 pounds.
I've been looking at flip tables, but most of them are too wide to fit through a standard doorway.

Re: Full slab island flip carts
Nearly every house I do has an island that size (or larger...
) All we've ever used was a drywall cart, lifters and manpower. The bigger the island, the more guys I throw at it, sometimes recruiting other subs (or the builder) to help. PM me if you're interested in a few tricks.

Re: Full slab island flip carts
Hi Dennis,
There isn't one cart that can do ALL things well. There are always trade-off's in design. One thing to ask yourself is... what is the most difficult part of installing large islands? Is is stairs? Is it getting out of the truck? Etc. Related to that is another question... which type of vehicle are you using (a truck, van, trailer, etc.)?
If you haven't used one of our carts before, I think you would notice right away how much they help. I hear it over and over again, so I'm not tooting my own horn. They really do make a world of difference.
Our carts stay attached, so you don't need extra people just to move the cart whenever you need to pick it up a couple of steps (like drywall carts). No offense Mitch, but drywall carts were not designed for installing granite. They do work, but there are better options (that are more expensive, but the benefits totally outweigh the initial investment very quickly).
Our carts and dollies are faster and safer, and many times require less workers at the job site.
I would take Mitch up on the PM offer for some tricks. I've learned a lot of very useful tips from installers who deal with this stuff daily. A lot of times it is things I've already heard, but sometimes there is a new gem.

Re: Full slab island flip carts
Cameron is right about our Pro-Lift lift cart having a 1000 lb capacity. Many think it is just for lifting and lowering, but it also works great for tilting pieces (using the motor) without putting a ton of side load on the cabinets. We call it a "controlled tilt".

Re: Full slab island flip carts
Get the pro cart, sink saver and grippers. To me those are the first things to buy if you are installing. And I have used the procart for drywall at my own house hahah worked great. Getting the big island on the cart is the only time we lift the piece. wheel up beside the island about 18" off the panel. (depending on the height of the piece) leave the cart attached and tip it on. Big islands are easier on the back then long sink runs if you do it this way. We use bristol board on the edge of the cabs to protect it. if the cabs arnt fastened to the floor then someone will have to push against the opposite side.

Re: Full slab island flip carts
Thanks Nick, that is great advice.
One cool feature of the Pro-Cart AT2 is that the clamp uprights fold down out of the way. This makes it even easier to roll the stone off the cart and onto the cabinets. The Pro-Carts are also at the right height to do this without much struggle.
Nick also mentioned the Sink Hole Saver and grippers. I feel these are just as important as the cart and are all equally important when dealing with big pieces. Our Aqua-Jaw Carry Vise can handle 800 pounds per pair and it really is surprising just how much easier it is with them than without. You can also add extra handles to them for extra guys. Everyone can get a proper grip and share the load.

Re: Full slab island flip carts
I got 2 of the smaller dollies and install everything regardless of size with my apprentice who weighs about 150 pounds...soaking wet. The small dollies enable us to get big islands through the doors. I like them a lot, never used the pro cart.

Re: Full slab island flip carts
I also have the small dollies for really tall islands. they work great but the pro cart is way better. goes over anything and up the stairs. you can teeter totter the piece so lifting is even less. Plus you don't have the big lift from the floor. I have actually replaced the tires twice because we wore them out. The one cart has been welded a few times and is still just as good as new. its close to 10 years old now. I think I have at least one of everything from omni! Except that new cart.

We literally install at least 2 a week in the 4'-5'x10' range. I use https://www.braxton-bragg.com/index.cfm ... 9959,9023/, as well as a pro cart for getting into the house. The groves table can be aggravating to get from truck to inside the house but I have never had to use more than two men and hardly break a sweat. Takes more time but absolute lifesaver.
