UV Resistant Brown Marble
Hi,
I would like to know is there any brown marble can resist to sunlight longer term. As far as I know all brown marbles lose color under the direct sunlight in couple months. I was told a decent sealer cant protect the color of stone.
Thank you.

Re: UV Resistant Brown Marble
There are likely some surface treatments that can be applied every so often that will help bring the color back, but I've never heard of a sealer that would prevent fading. Other option is to have periodic refinishing work done by a restoration pro.

Re: UV Resistant Brown Marble
I think your best bet would be to use an enhancer. It will supply SOME protection but there's not really a sealer that will solve all the fading issues, that I'm aware of. At least with the enhancer you can reapply as it fades again to bring back the color.
Good luck

Re: UV Resistant Brown Marble
We have a bundle of pietra grey which is dark brown outside that hasn't faded due to sun. Does emperador fade? I've definitely had some browns fade outside but not sure all do.

Call me and I'll cover it with Stoneguard; I'm an authorized dealer now. It will not only never fade in the sun, it will never etch again either.
Will that be gloss or satin?

Sorry, unless "Stoneguard" is a total barrier, which it is, it is not a sealer.
Do a little Chemistry research please.
CaCO3+HCl> CaCl2+CO2+H2O
"You invested thousands of dollars into your kitchen countertop. Protect it with StoneGuard® Stone Surface Protection Film today."
Why do you want a "Film" on your stone -- if you do then you want "Fake".
So buy laminate!

Please comprehend the original posts of the threads to which you are responding:

The OP asked if there was a brown marble that can resist sunlight. I answered the question directly. The OP is correct, a decent sealer can't protect the color of stone. Stoneguard can. Again, another directly relevant answer.
I think you'd better have your irony detector recalibrated. Most "natural" stone used as countertops would be unfit were it not for resinating. So you have no problem with plastic at the factory, but somehow plastic on site is "Fake"?

Re-calibrate yourself Kowboy.
Re-calibrate, Resined, please note the (sic) notes above.
Wanna sell something fake? That is indeed what you are going for here, not trying to; Learn, Share or Prosper.
I am offended that you did nothing to direct the OP towards the only correct direction, NO, you went to enrich YOU OWN POCKET. No need to help the OP, no screw them, let me make some coin on them.

Emperador may be a good option too. I've got some remnants that have been in the yard for years and look to be in good shape yet.

Re: UV Resistant Brown Marble
Not to feed the fire but back to the Stoneguard. I personally don't have any experience with the material but it sounds like a really cool idea especially since you wont know it's there. I understand it is not normal practice and is fairly new to the industry. I personally don't see a problem with it as long as the customer is willing to pay for the application. When someone buys a new Ferrari or Lambo it's common practice to have this film applied to the paint. It protects the investment. Since it's invisible to the naked eye and will further protect the marble I don't see why you would call it "fake". It's not making your stone fake. If I put a screen protector on my phone does it make my phone fake? I really dont understand your argument.

My bullshit sensor went off when their home page video calls a piece of granite a marble.

Re: UV Resistant Brown Marble
Jamie, you probably did not buy your phone because the screen was beautiful. Any topical film will have it's own issues, with wear patterns, abrasions & scuffs. My grandma had clear plastic slip covers on her beautiful furniture. It made them all look like crap, imo.
Comparing a product that is typically viewed from a far (lambo) and a counter top the is micro scrutinized from 5" away, is hardly apples to apples.

Re: UV Resistant Brown Marble
Actually people buy phones because of there beautiful screens all the time, it's one of the main selling points. People also walk up to lambos to get a closer look all the time because they never see them. I'm sure it does have some drawbacks. But like I said I have no experience with it.. But I'm a firm believer that you shouldn't talk crap about something without trying it. I'm just saying calling it fake isn't fair...

Re: UV Resistant Brown Marble
The film is nothing new, we've had it for a while and my partner Ted has been applying it for close to a decade. The issue with it is that it needs to be trimmed just short of the edge detail, so it leaves and edge where the film ends. This is a problem if you have kids, or guests often, as it is in human nature to pick at it. It is more suitable for hotel vanities and commercial bar tops, where it will be replaced periodically on a somewhat regular basis. It also has to be installed flawlessly, as any spec of dust will be magnified. There is a system to it. The good thing is that the films are typically UV stable. Also, the rolls of film are only available so big, so depending on the size of the piece, it may need to be seemed. These seams inevitably collect dust and dirt over time. There are limitations to it, just like everything else. A residential kitchen and/or bathroom is the last place I would recommend one of these films, this is coming from someone who sells it
I would imagine that just about any marble is UV stable, the issue is being exposed to dirt+wind+rain, then having that sit in direct sunlight. It will take its toll. As far as UV alone, it should be fine.
