Cutting Quartzite!
Can anyone give me a good recommendation on speeds, feeds, blades, and anything else that may pertain to cutting quartzites? We are using a White Lion on a Fusion with fixed rpm. Just trying to see whats been successful for everyone so I can come up with a good base procedure for when quartzites come down the pipe. We do both Knife Miters and single thickness so waterjetting is not a finite solution. Any help is much appreciated.

I've been running the 14" Terminator Nanocut Q2 on our Fusions and it works great for us. Feedrate depends on the material, just watch your motor amps and how much chipping there is.

Re: Cutting Quartzite!
I use the White Lion as well. No step cutting on an old manual gantry saw. Chip free, feed rate ~ 2'/min and rpm's 1800??? not really sure...

Re: Cutting Quartzite!
We just went to straight waterjet only on our Fusion. Looking at 30 min to an hour cut time. Got tired of worrying about blades. Guys use diamond cluster wherls to clean up. Works great. Tried both the Lion and the Teminator. Both worked great but why take the time to change blades or worry about chipping stone and possibly losing teeth on a blade. Thats just how we like to do it. We do sometimes have to slow it down to 30% at the saw.

...but not on quartzite. Matrix does not work with Taj Majal, Crystallize or material similar. 99% is estone and new caledonia/santa celcilia esqe granite
WJ is the way to go with quartzite especially on the fusion.

Don't know, have had no troubles with the White Lion on our Fusions.
Watch your feed rates and arbor speed.

Re: Cutting Quartzite!
We do work with quartzite occasionally, and I was specifically talking about Taj Mahal because the Fusion with the Nano Q2 handled it just fine when we cut it just a few weeks ago. Definitely saw no reason to go full WJ.DFNatural wrote: ↑Thu Mar 01, 2018 5:06 pmmatejbalun wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2018 1:00 pmI've been running the 14" Terminator Nanocut Q2 on our Fusions and it works great for us. Re: Cutting Quartzite!
Cores Do matter when cutting harder materials. The blade quality will be determined by the core. I have two spectacular performers. The White Lion and the Zenesis Quartzite blade.MesaTandS wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2018 11:36 amCan anyone give me a good recommendation on speeds, feeds, blades, and anything else that may pertain to cutting quartzites? The RPMS and feedrates depend on the size. I take it you are running a 14" blade? Since your RPM are fixed your best bet is the White Lion. The blade needs to be ran as fast as possible in order to keep the medium/soft bonded diamonds from glazing.
Cutting mitres won't be an issue with the White Lion as the CORE is from poland not Germany btw. Its a steel core.

Re: Cutting Quartzite!
Alex, what is the core thickness on the white lion? And does it differ from other brands and sizes (blade dia.)?

Re: Cutting Quartzite!
Not sure on the thickness. But the White lion is recommended at 1750 RPM and anywhere between 60-120ipm depending on which quartzite you are cutting.

Re: Cutting Quartzite!
Alpha Professional Tools® has a bridge saw blade specifically designed for cutting quartzite, this blade is the Alpha® Silencer III for Quartzite blade. On the product box we have our “Spindle RPM for Recommended Peripheral Speed by m/sec” for all our Silencer III Blade Series. This chart lists the best peripheral speed and traverse speed to use our Alpha® Silencer III Series blades to obtain the optimum cutting performance between blade and material. Cutting performance is based on the saws spindle rpm, blade diameter, traverse speed and material which is being cut. Our chart will advise which blade diameter to use based on the saws set rpm setting to cut the material with best cutting results. You can find this chart on our website: https://www.alpha-tools.com/Files/Other ... -Chart.pdfMesaTandS wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2018 11:36 amCan anyone give me a good recommendation on speeds, feeds, blades, and anything else that may pertain to cutting quartzites?
