Hi Mark,

We call the alpha-numeric names as the Serial Numbers for the Stone in China. It is mostly used for the granites, such as G682, G611, etc. For the marble, we usually call the name, like Ming Green, Bosy Gray, Black & Gold.

The alpha letter means the type of the stone.
G is for Granite.
M is for Marble.
S is for Slate.
Q is for Sandstone

For the other stones quarried in China, we don't have the Serial Numbers so far.

The number shows the state/province where the stone is quarried.
3 for Shandong Province in Northern China.
4 for Guangdong Province in Southern China, where the Canton Fair is held
5 for Guangxi Province next to Guangdong
6 for Fujian Province where I am...

The 3-digit serial number is popular in China, although there is new 4-digit number, like G3582 for G682.

Man, I have skipped over this thread until today. This is the coolest thing on here in a long time. Chris has dispelled many notions that I had about China. I though everybody working there was working in bad conditions. I thought the factories were archaic as well as the equipment. I thought gas was about .50 cents a gallon. Who knew all the girls working in the granite company offices were young and beautiful

! The city is beautiful as well.

We need more stuff like this. Keep it coming Chris!

By the way, the Heat lost their first game last night.

Lakers has been my favorite since 2000, when the O & K dominated the league.

Celtics is a great team all over the history. They are still very competitive to the championship, since they are a team with experience(Shaq, Kevin, Ray) and Rondo has proved himself as one of the best PGs.

Matt, many Chinese get in love in NBA since Yao Ming joined Rockets in 2002. And the love shall continue as long as there still Amazing Happens :D

Miles, it is great that you get new impression about China. The gas is nearly $ 4 a gallon. And the traffic jam is a very serious problem, cause there are almost 100 millon cars in China and the figure shall keep rise by 20 M a year....
