I, like Jean, do not advocate the "two slabs in the clamp" idea.
Just curious. How many of you lift two slabs in a typical slab clamp?

Jean the third thing I'd add to your safety checklist is to cordon off the unloading area (or have someone warn people as they approach) during a stone delivery especially if it is near where customers or employees will be entering/exiting the building.

Wow, how does any one get work done around there? Airplanes, go carts, boats, shooting, and bar-b-q-ing fresh cow.
Glad your safe, sorry about your island... or should I say 4 end tables.

Re: Slab Truck Unload - Safety - I am still shaking!
Sorry for the necro=post lol I was looking for other info when I stumbled on this...we lost a slab of quartz yesterday.
We were loading it with the indoor crane and it slipper right off and fell 18 inches on its edge, we lost 1/4 of it.
That slab we lost was a replacement for the awesome island that we finally got installed but the electrician dropped a hammer on it and chipped it.
That slab was a replacement for the piece where the supplier sent the wrong colour, and since we didn't check and we've never used Compisito Quartz before we would have never known the difference as the customer spec'd it..we fab's it and installed it OMG...
So slab #4 for the same island is on its way.
Anyways, here is what happens to 2cm Carrara when it falls off the clamp from 2 feet:

I love the pattern that slab of Carrara broke into, if you lay it as a floor with grout joints it would look really cool.Stone Age Granite wrote:Sorry for the necro=post lol I was looking for other info when I stumbled on this...we lost a slab of quartz yesterday.

Ken - Before I even saw your post I was lookiong at this and thinking,"with a poured lamination and then encase that in glass it would be very cool"!

Re: Slab Truck Unload - Safety - I am still shaking!
The Carrara did break in a beautiful pattern.. something about the broken stone reminds me of a tree in an Ansel Adams photo..
I run into the drivers who insists on two in a clamp.. unloads.. "He forgot" "He has no time" etc.. I never waiver on my rule.. I told him to pack up his truck and get out of here, go explain to his boss why he is coming back full and no check! He unloaded my way.

Re: Slab Truck Unload - Safety - I am still shaking!
Daltile boys were loading some 2cm for me 2 at a time. I told them that they were asking for an accident, even explained how it would break around the clamp and why.
don't they teach these guys anything? Way to hang tough Jean.
