vessel sink holes
What size hole is everyone drilling for vessel sinks? I seem to get calls back occasionally because the hole is a little big or a little small. I have been using a 2" core bit lately but have used smaller sizes in the past. Is there a standard size hole or is every sink and drain a little but different? We require the sink and faucet to be on site for the install but in this particular case the drain was not at the house. Do you have your installers look at every single drain and try to drill a particular hole to match it or should there be some information with the sink/drain because in this case there was no paperwork given to me, only a sink and faucet.

Re: vessel sink holes
It really depends upon the vessel sink throat. I am usually in the 1.75 - 2" diameter range. I have seen them at 1-3/8 though and some up to 3.5"

Re: vessel sink holes
You have to view the hole assembly before cutting any vessel sink holes, they come in all different sizes.

Re: vessel sink holes
as everyone else has said, we too ALWAYS require to have the sink before drilling a hole.
From my experience almost all the glass vessel sinks that sit entirely on top of the counter need a 1-3/4" diameter hole. This allows for the drain to go through sink & top, then the nut assembly tightens nicely on the underside. If too large of a hole is drilled, the nut may not grab right at all.

Re: vessel sink holes
Mainly, 1 3/4" dia hole, but do as others have said and require sink/faucet on every sink and cut accordingly.

Re: vessel sink holes
We cut a 9inch hole and 45 the edge with a hogger.
This will recess the sink about 1/3 and we think it looks better
and put the faucet at a 45` 2inch from the bowl.

Re: vessel sink holes
The sink drains are usually 1-1/2" diam.
We have always drilled 2" holes for the drains without issue.

Re: vessel sink holes
We changed recently, had always drilled 2" holes, and even if it was a little big, it was ok, UNLESS they have a glass vessel
Now we check the strainer, but have drilled 1 3/4" holes on every one since then.

Re: vessel sink holes
Does anyone have an idea where I can get a template for a round vessel Sink with a 16.5" diameter and a drain size of 1.75" on a countertop measuring 43.5x22.5?

Re: vessel sink holes
Rlozoya,
Noone knew you were a lady looking for help as you didn't tell us.
Your question is one that any fabricator should be able to figure out if they see the sink....thus Ken's "jab" at the fabricator (you)
What do you mean by "template". If it's a vessel bowl with a 1 3/4" drain, the hole needs to be large enough for the drain pipe to fit thru and not so large that you can see it outside the vessel bowl. Probably a 1.5" hole would work.
Where to put it on the top is totally your preference. Put the bowl on the top, move it around and mark the center of the drain.
Now....if this is a bowl that needs a big cutout, make and model are needed for us to help more.

I apologize mam, I assumed you were a fabricator as the rest of us. I surely wouldn't have spoken in such way if I had known you were a lady. Please forgive me.

Re: vessel sink holes
We- Diamant Boart/Husqvarna have many sizes for drilling on site that work excellent when you need to. We also can custom make sizes to specific requests since we manufacture ourselves -even the length sizes as well for doing granite boulders, etc. I would be happy to help also.
