Vulcanizing is when you send your pods to Spock and he works his magic on them.

All kidding aside, Chris and Cevin are correct, it is a thermal/mechanical process.

Re: Suction cups
Don't know CHIT about what y'all are talking about, and will likely NEVER be able to afford a CNC where it would matter to me, but I LOVE these kinds of threads, suck 'em up like a sponge, and learn a TON, so thanks for the back-and-forth, truly!

Re: Suction cups
Gary, if they are our pods, you can go on our website and fill out a repair form. If possible, email me the form along with some pictures of your damaged pods so I have an idea of what needs to be fixed. Just keep in mind it is an estimate. Without seeing them in person, I wont have an exact cost, but it should be close either way.
Repair form link: http://blickindustries.com/cgi-bin/repairpg.asp
A good rule of thumb that I tell everyone is a typical repair costs about 50% of a new suction cup.
Typical repair is:
Replace top plate
Replace top rubber pad
Replace Seal (top and bottom)
Replace fittings
Sam- I enjoy these types of threads as well, because it gives me a chance to inform customers about our product which is something I have become passionate about after 5 years of working here.
My customers (you guys) are just like your customers... At first glance, whether it is a suction cup or counter-top, all of it may seem quite simple. But just like my customers and your customers come find out there is A LOT that goes into our businesses, whether it is making suction cups or counter-tops. I hope that if anything this thread sheds some light on what we go through to make your process better, just like when your customers get involved in the process of designing they find out all the work that goes into making beautiful things out of stone. I am also glad this thread came up because it gives me an opportunity to listen to what customers think should be improved.
It has taken us a long time to get our product to where it is. Believe it or not, we spend a lot of $$$ every year on R&D to continue to better our product. As I mentioned in other threads, we are getting close to a big announcement regarding issues discussed in this thread. I'll keep you all posted.
