tape residue on soapstone

I have some soapstone countertops that I installed and the painters put tape on the tops when they were spraying. I havn't seen it yet but the builder is saying that they cannot get the residue from the tape off the tops. They are cleaning it with denatured. Any suggestions on how to take care of this without have to sand the tops? Thank you

scotch brite pads should remove it. maybe with some acetone. Depends on how you finished the surface if it will change to look.

All depends on what type of soapstone you have. . . Traditional soapstone I'd be suprised that denatured won't take it off. . . Tape usually just takes the oil off the surface and leaves a tape mark, but it's just taking the oil off. Try washing it with soap and water and a scrubby pad you would use to wash dishes with and reoiling it. . .

Get used to refinishing soapstone, the factory finishes are rarely the best.

You probably already know this but just in case. As another poster said it usually just takes the oil off. it may just need to be re oiled with mineral oil to get the finish to look the same.
