I have to install a water heater in the shop for polishers. The guts just wont quit crying. My question is can you use PVC or will I have to use copper. PVC will be much easier and less costly where it will need to go. I can do copper, I just dont want to unless it is really necessary.

pvc is used in homes as water supply in many parts of the country it can withstand up to 180 deg Fahrenheit
if it's legal in your area is another story . check with your municipality for their plumbing code

My guess would be copper. I would think that the constant supply of hot water could be bad for the joints. But I am no expert... just a guy with a opinion :D

There is a kind of high pressure flex hose that looks a lot like a red garden hose that is used in prefabricated homes, I am waiting to hear back from a friend who uses it with the correct name of this stuff...apparently it's really easy to install.

When using pvc, it is in most places code to run the first 4 feet in copper then transition to pvc.

PEX, is what your think of Tynan !! Its easy to use and does not cost as much as copper, but better than PVC.

PVC will be fine......you will only set the thermostat high enough to take the chill out of the water.

At my old shops, when I had water heaters installed, the temperature was set much lower than a household water heater. At home, I think the water is set at around 120 degrees. At the shop it was only around 90-100 degrees. Your polishers will not want hot water coming out either.....they'll let you know when you've got it set comfortably.

This is how we did it.

Note: 100 degrees.

cpvc is what to use if you go with plastic, make sure you get cleaner and glue for cpvc. However pex line would be easier and you could use sharkbite fittings instead of the crimp rings, The cost more but you just push the line in the fitting and you are done.

PEX................Easy on, easy off........... :D

I would do pex also. it very fast. i don't know how much cheaper it is, now that copper has come why down, but you can change it around or add to it very easy.

It is unseasonably cold here. Well, I guess it is the season for cold, but burrrrrrr. And even worse in dallas. It is going to be below freezing a couple times this week. I am thinking about dragging a hot water heater to the shop and hooking it up just for a couple days here. It is in the 40s today, which is cold to us. 105 degrees is fine, but anything below 60 is horrible.

It was 18 this morning in Bham. Way to dang cold.

I did get one of the polishers to try out the glove (one) I lost one of them in the Chesepeke But, they are the bomb in cold wet conditions, his one hand stayed warm, almost hot while polishing. My buddy is flying in tommorow from Ireland with 4 pairs. I will keep yall posted.

suspicious, heck, it's pure BS. I don't even want to leave the house in the morning, -1 last nite and cold again tonite. 2 days ago it was 40 degrees and rain. I'm getting soft in my old age.
