Installing Induction Cooktops

Just ran into our forst induction drop in cooktop. We had gotten really used to cutting the hole, dropping the cooktop in to dry fit, and letting the electricians take it from there. Technology takes a while to get to our little town


The install manual calls for the top to be supported by steel brackets that are glued to the sides of the cutout.

Any experiences with this application good or bad? Just struck us as an odd application to have glue between stone and steel, with a sheer force and all the heat associated with cooking.


Any ideas what kind of glue? The cooktop manufacturer provides the glue. It was not in the box, and the homeowne r is trying to locate it now. Probably an accessory kit for "marble" countertops.

That just sounds whacked!

Induction works using magnetism so the fact they are asking for steel supports is a big FLASHING light!

My bet is that it is BS! at least 1/2 of new kitchens I do are induction. Shyte I have it. Why would you not have it!!!!!!!

Anyway there are some rules but none really to do with tops! (but that's if cab guys give a shit)


Our rules for cab guys is that they must have at least 100mm from the bottom of the induction hob to the utensils in the draw below.

Don't laugh as this has happened here in little cool niche of the world NZ.

Chris - My guess is that there isnt enough lip before you get to teh glass part fo the cooktop to support the weight on its own. Have not run into this. What brand?

Not sure on the brand.

There is NO metal lip. All Glass Overhang.

I thought you just cut a "rabbit' for the top to set flush????? Maybe wrong subject

Appliance dealer says $80 for the tube of glue and a two week lead time.


Contacted Integra and have some composite bonder on the way. Half the price and a two day lead time.

Chris if it is close enough to the cabinet wall(most are) you could use some 4x4 "L" brackets to support off of cab wall. That is what I did to mine
