I recently purchased a NC 160 which will need to be dismantled, loaded and transported to my shop. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this? For transport, seller reports that I will be moving a load of 21,000 lbs, 18' 6"L X 9' 6" W X 8' H and will need a jack hemmer and cutting torches to free it from its leveling base.

Re: Rigging and transporting a Breton NC 160
i've done that, not with a Breton though. It took Chris and myself 5 or six days to get it disassembled. Id say whoever is going to help assemble it at your shop should be there for dissassembly at its current home. The only thing that cost me time once i had the machine in my shop is how we marked the hydraulic cables. We used tape with sharpie notes on it. The hydraulic oil made quick work of ruining our notes. If i was doing it again i'd use a system of colored zip ties or the little cable tags that the manufacturers use.
You should also get the proper dissassmebly/transport procedure from Breton. We had to move the spindle/gantry to a specific location before we started unhooking everything. You'd hate to figure that out after everything was disconnected.
Good Luck!

Hi Michael,
You will need machine skates, a heavy duty forklift(10,000 lbs capacity), and a crane to lift it onto a truck. Here is a video of an NC250 being rigged:

Is the NC160 a dual or single table model?

Dear Mike,
I hope this message finds you well. Is this the NJ Mike Wells?
It could help if one of our guys prepared the machine for shipment.
In any case, if this is Mike from Intelco in your area to move the machine there are two very good riggers.
Either one I'm sure could do a good job for you.
The one is called Worthington, (mt laurel I think) and the other is called mayberry. (Moorestown)
If this is a different Mike Wells, then disregard.
If it is, call me, it's been awhile.

Hi Mike,
We recently used Pedowitz Trucking (917) 855 1788, to move an NC260 Robocup. They were very reasonable and they do the rigging and trucking, believe me its a nightmare to coordinate a separate rigger and trucker. We used Breton to disassemble, they estimated 3 days and completed in two, Also the bill was 35% less than the estimate. Great experience with both companies. Hope this was helpful.

Pedowitz is the best. They used to do machine tool rigging for me and I got them started with stone machinery over 20 years ago. Talk with Scott. They can take care of everything.

Yup, Pedowitz does a good job, also for us. He's a little more north jersey though.
It's like southern and northern Italy John, different story... (haha)

Re: Rigging and transporting a Breton NC 160
Thanks for the link. I'm out of the country with spotty Internet access and am eager to get back and work on this. It is the dual table model and I'm taking it from Virginia to Montreal.PoseidonMachinery wrote:Hi Michael,

Re: Rigging and transporting a Breton NC 160
Hey There,
That may be a bit more complex as I believe there are some rails that are bolted into a foundation the customer made of cement so that the tables could roll in and out. If you shoot me some pictures, I can speak with some techs who removed that exact unit prior and get you a game plan going.
Regards,
Joe Alva

Re: Rigging and transporting a Breton NC 160
Thanks for all the input on moving my Breton NC-160. I've ben out of the country and am just getting seriously into the project. I haven't yet seen the installed unit and have been told that I should come prepared with cutting torches and a good jackhammer. I'm not sure what removal entails. Anyone have any specific clues for that? Does one jack hammer out the leveling bases and re-instal them or sacrifice them and buy new for the new instal?
I'm awating a CD of a manual from Breton and hope it may have some specific info about brackets to secure the spindle and beam for transport. Otherwise, any ideas?
The width is described as 117.5". Is there a way to reduce the width or is that a shipping given?

Re: Rigging and transporting a Breton NC 160
The BretonUSA team have sent me pdf drawings of the suggested stablizing plates to lock the beam and router in place during transport. The seller doesn't have them. While we could fabricate them, I wonder if anyone has a set to lend or rent to me for my transport. It seems like each NC 160 must have had this safety set up for transport.

When I moved my NW I secured the bridge with 2x4s bolted into the rails on both sides, The Breton I donno but probably shouldn't be a brain drain to figure out something,
