Hello all,
Here is some nice pictures of a quarry in Brazil. This material is an exotic granite called Petrified wood. The last picture shows a slab after it has been resin and polished.
This quarry is what we call a "bolder quarry" which means it is just a big ball of granite found in the middle of no-where and it is not a "mountain quarry". Just so you know, a mountain quarry is a huge quarry where you can continuously excavating for many decades (sometimes centuries) and it won't be over (example: quarry of Ubatuba is a mountain quarry). The bolder quarry usually finishes much quicker (around 10 to 50 years of excavation).

That's awesome, thanks for the pics !!
Not revelant, but I thought the original Ubatuba quarry played out, and they are quarring "Ubatuba " from the Labrador quarry and the Verde Bahia quarry, and the Marbrasa quarry
Would love to get a clairification from the source !!

Joe, in fact I can say there are at least 15 different types of Ubatuba (or Labrador Green) in Brazil, which means many different quarries. It is kind of hard to say which one is the original, because they all look very similar. Your information in fact is correct, and the original quarry of Ubatuba, which was originally opened by the supplier called Bruno Zanetti, at the city of Ubatuba, in Sao Paulo, is closed probably because the color underneath the quarry has changed to a different shade of green (maybe to grey). However there are many different types which are very similar, and it is almost impossible to say the difference.Joe Little wrote:That's awesome, thanks for the pics !!
