sealer concerns
I am a new fabricator, and this will be my first post. I have been reading and learning quite a lot from this site. To the questions. I am fabricating serving trays from ubatuba, and am concerned that the sealer may contaminate the food placed on the stone. The lableing on the product does not specify either way. I was hopeing someone might have clear answer on this.

Re: sealer concerns
What "contamination" are you concerned about? Most sealers, when properly applied and fully cured do not affect any foods that come in contact with the stone. "Properly applied" means fully removing any excess sealer from the surface of the stone. The sealer doing any actual protection will reside just below the surface, and when cured should be well bonded to the stone. A properly sealed stone will actually make the stone easier to clean and disinfect - less likely to harbor potentially harmful bacteria.
What sealer are you using? Have you read and understand the MSDS and proper use of it?
I might also add that sealer on Uba Tuba adds little (if any) additional protection. You can probably go without ANY sealer on Uba Tuba.

Re: sealer concerns
I am using SCI spray n seal. I dont know what MSDS is refering to. Contamination would be the sealer posibly leaching from the stone into the food. THanks for the comments.

Material Safety Data Sheet -
The name basically says it all. Should be provided with the product directly or be very easily obtainable from the manufacturer or distributor. The website would be a good start but call who you got it from. Typically, chemical distributors are required to have MSDS on hand for all sales and will sometimes require a signature verifying that you received said MSDS.

#10 on this page:
http://stonecare.com/SCI-Frequently-Asked-Questions
MSDS is the Materials Safety Data Sheet
It covers any/all hazards and safe handling of the raw (uncured) product:
