We recently decided we are going to get what you pay for ,by paying great money for our new crew of fabricators it has made a world of deference.We have always paid little money for our fabricators and being the production manager has done nothing but given me and the customers and big fat call backs head echs etc. im so happy to finally see that there are guys out there like me that take pride in there work and produce Quality kitchens.

The pool here is because I breath you owe me something I want to kill my guys some days. I'm about to clean house real soon. Am i the only one but when I started in the biz i bough some of my own tools kinda like machanic has to have to ask for top dollar am I wrong???????

The test for an employee should be if he got the owner's daughter pregnant, does he have a job with a future? Does he have a job that pays enough to support a young family including health insurance? If the owner answers "no" to the test question, he has nothing to complain about.

back on topic.... it is true that you will attract better craftsman with better pay but by no means a 100% guarantee so don't let your guard down. My suggestion is to hire them on a starting pay with a guarantee of a pay hike depending on there actual skill level and or willingness to get the $$$hit done.

example with unrealistic #'s because we are in the open forum. When you hire a supposed skilled fabricator start them at say $2 an hour with a guaranteed pay hike to say $3 an hour in 60-90 days if he can prove he is worth it after the 60-90 days have a review with him and give him the bump or not depending on his performance. Truth be told i would be skeptical of any one up for hire that would appose this. Any good fabricator would be more than willing to prove his worth.

well after a week of having my new crew the shop foreman has totally cleaned up the shop and organized everything i no the saying they all come out of the gate strong for a couple of weeks i guess we will see but as it stands so far so good.
