I subscribe to Inc. magazine and this month's issue features the 500 fastest-growing privately-owned firms in the country. There on page 100 under Construction is Cadillac Stone Works, North Las Vegas, NV, who "makes and installs countertops, floor medallions, waterfalls and custom inlays."

Out of 500, they rank 98 with a three-year growth rate of 2,677%. No, that's not a typo. Two thousand six hundred seventy-seven percent growth in the last three years. Jeff Grail is the CEO. They started in 2007 and did 4.2 million with 12 employees in 2010.

Wow.

I may be wrong, but seams like I remember hearing that name from Jerry. They may run some Omag gear.

Interesting information Joe. I went to their website. They are an OMAG shop. The website doesn't give a lot of info about what they do, IMO. But I think this is awesome. There are opportunities out there and you have to go find them.

I think our company would have made the list somewhere around 1250! We've experienced about 250% growth during that time. I don't know how official these lists are, but in this time of doom and gloom, it's good to hear some positive stories.

I worked for a shop that in their 2nd year did 3.5 million with 18 employees, 7 years later they closed their doors with unpaid tabs (BIG tabs) at every supplier that had been dumb enough to give them credit. Thats why I say its useless info unless there is a way to look at their books. For a business man if all he have to be conserned with is one number, gross sales, growing is not difficult. It is much more interesting if one could read up on companies growth over long periods (10-15-20 years) with 5 year intervals. A business that have only been up for 4 years have not even passed the tresshold for being established.

Ken,

No doubt, you're exactly right about that. There is nothing in this article that speaks to profitability or debt for that matter. But in general, with all things considered, substantial growth in todays environment is something worth looking at. It's valuable to look at someone who is growing and try to understand what they're doing, whether it's right or wrong.

I do the same with small shops. If they're busy and appear to be thriving, I want to pay attention. But, there is not a whole lot of info about any of these companies in this article.

I cleaned this up again.

This is about Caddilac Stone, not any particular person.

A quick update: Cadillac Stone Works left the Las Vegas market about a year ago.

What do you mean "left the market"? Out of business?

From the looks of things, they are not in business.
They still have an active website, but the phone numbers don't work and the street view of their facility looks like it's available for lease (but I have no idea when Google took that photo).

That's a crazy amount of overhead to suck down especially when the market tanked. No way they would have pulled through it considering how Las Vegas died for those couple of years.

They came to us back in 2011 to sell the Omag machines....not sure whatever happened to them as we had people interested in the machines and then could not get in touch with them.

Jeff is a good guy, he got screwed by some very shrewed and poor business partners. Not to mention the horrible collapse there in Las Vegas that still seems to be going on.
I actually bought his 2 large mill 98 Omags from him 2 years ago now. He was very present and still has a small group of guys running his jets and doing hand work. Floor medallions and tile is his big money maker and keeps him running. At one time I would have loved to have seen the shop. Jerry from OMAG said he was there for almost 3 months straight setting up all his equipment and trying to get his guys trained.
This is a long story with much infomation. It is too bad it went south as my dealings with Jeff Grail were great. I would have to say he is a stand up guy, who jumped in a bit too deep and knew nothing about the stone industry!

That is encouraging news Dustin. It is always nice to hear a survival story. There are plenty of guys who got in water over their heads with shady people during the boom.

@ Dustin...how are things? We have all missed you around here. Good to see you around again. Don't be such a stranger!!
