In St Louis there will be some competitive fabricator events (with cash prizes).
Event #1 (Thursday) will be polishing 5' of back splash. The event will be judged on time and quality of the polish. First prize is $200 cash.
Event #2 (Friday) will be to grind and polish a randomly selected edge. Judging will be based on time and quality. First prize is $400 cash
Then there will be a fabricator face off challenge. Representing the East Coast is Nick "flip flop" Patrona, with James "no problem" D. representing the West Coast. The format will be a miter build off to see who does it better, old school East Coast or the modern day new techniques of the West Coast. The prize will be bragging rights for the year.
Bring your work clothes and let the trash talk begin!

looks like im going home with some cash in my pocket
Seriously though if I am still this busy in October I will more than likely have to miss this one as well. its the only time of the year I actually hope for a slight slow down. May be i can just put a sighn on the gate that says out to lunch be back in 3 days

No one is so busy that they can not get there for 2 days. We do no production or installation for those 2 days, as the whole staff will be in St Louis.

Re: Fabricator Olympics
Yep that is the problem with Americans. Work, work ,work. More to life than just work. If you can't plan around it and or if your custies get bent about not having their tops asap then there is a problem. I just straight up tell them I won't be able to start or install during those days. 99% of the time when I say this (due to me going somewhere) they wait. If one gets all bent out of shape, then I don't want to work with them.

Re: Fabricator Olympics
I can bring some small blocks of granite for the Life Fitness crowd "jerk".
Those tight runner's shorts from the 80's aren't still stylish, are they ? Hope not.
Seriously, the weight lifting, may be a small problem.
Why not see how many kidney punches one can tolerate while holding their end of a 500 lbs Island?
We could have a hot ears contest to see who can last the longest with Dan Toy making your ears burn (Dustin is the reigning Champion, to my knowledge).
Or who has the best hair do when filled with granite dust? My personal pick would be James D.
Speaking of James D., we could have a manicure contest!
We could use electric polishers and and see how much electricity conductivity contestants can stand. We can even add small cut s to the hand and cuticle area to enhance the tingling.
We could purposely blow up Silicone carbide wheels and then vote on which ones were the coolest explosion.
We could have an impromptu SFA jam session Friday night.
And we are open to other possible SFA Olympic topics of a high caliber.
We can do almost anything, but we need to be careful, not not get any one hurt, really bad.

I am afraid they are coming back in style. Along with the dumb pants, sunglasses, well, everything late 80's? I am unsure of the exact time period, as I was born in the 1980's; not starting to collect social security in them.

Kindey punches with island sounds smart. Real world situations right there.

The WOW was that you are into cross fit.
OK, since when is my style "old school" and james' crap new style technology?. WTF is that crap? And James is "no problem" and I am "flip flops"??? I don't think James could have promoted this better if he wrote it.
Also, thanks for volunteering me for something without asking. I will now submit my terms. I will only do this if the following conditions are met.
1. It is a granite/marble and not ES
2. We each have a run that has a 45* inside AND outside corner, so essentially "L" shapes cut in same material on same CNC saw program.
I am not going to dignify a miter contest with my participation that is a straight run or ES or even worse both.

Nick, my bad on the protocol.
I was thinking Natural stone.
How much Evian? Gas or no gas in the water?
We have also culled out all the brown M & Ms per your usual agreement.

Re: Fabricator Olympics
The actual challenge will only take a few minutes. Probably a long time in Nick's world of ADHD. I am certain it won't conflict with his photog presentation.
No schedule was purposely made, that can be decided when we all meet and depending on James and Nick's schedules.
Should they chose seconds (assistants) as is customary in pistol duels?

Re: Fabricator Olympics
Better idea, can yo just bring some weapons and james and I can take 10 paces and turn and shoot wild west style?
There is no point in a straight run. It said Olympics in the title not fabricating 101, sorry for being prissy. But while I am being demanding, Dan brings up a good point, I think we should have teammates so when I get bored or see something shiny and chase after it 5 minutes into it work can still get done
