Re: Here they come , Senate after Guns
Any gun ban will be a total snow job to the public. The last gun ban did nothing to ease gun violence. The bans grandfather in every legally owned gun, so what is the point? It is not feasible to take away every gun in America, there are currently over 300,000,000 right now.
Another law, really? Laws are only good for those obeying them. Every shooter has already broken several laws, why not just enforce the laws we already have? It is hard to accept the recent tragedies without having a specific reason to punish, because they take the coward's route.
The most disturbing part of the ban is the line concerning funding for the ATF to enact and enforce the ban. More tax money for no further value, just what America needs.
To label gun rights people as not caring for children is ridiculous. Any one with an IQ of over 60, should be able to see the scam of this whole thing.
Punish criminals, not citizens. Do give up more rights to the government.

good grief even a simple lock down system , when bell rings doors windows go into lock down and know one gets in except by buzzer on main door but you can get out . one of the local private schools is set up that way

Re: Here they come , Senate after Guns
Isn't it a bit hypocritical of liberals to oppose having properly trained and armed security personnel on schools campuses, but the very private school that most of them, including the president, send their children too has 11 armed security people comprised of retired secret service agents, 2 retired Force Recon Marines and a Navy Seal?
The other point is, the media keeps referring to the "assault weapon" this latest psycho had...but they fail to mention that the Bushmaster wasn't used, only the Sig Sauer and the Glock....I'm sure it's just an oversight, but there's already an assault weapons ban in place in Connecticut..

Re: Here they come , Senate after Guns
unfortunately I seriously disagree with that statement. I will also go as far as to say that that type of mentality is part of the problem. I like tedd don't get me wrong. The problem is that statements like that show that he has never actually had much experience with people that have actually had a troughly bad child hood.. your brain is in a development stage until you are in your early 20's. If you take a child and do things to that child that you would not even do to your adult wife. It will absolutely and drastically alter that persons mental stability for ever. I know several people that have gone through very bad tings as kids. some that I went to school with and some that are even closer. I can tell you that in some cases people move forward and can live fairly normal lives. But some deal with sever mental disorders. That were brought on by no fault of there own. like multipul personality disorder, bipolar, and schizophrenia to name just a few. Ask your self as a full grown man how would your life be if you father raped you repeatedly as say a 6 year old...? How would your life be different? Or if your father beat you not just the normal that most of us got. If he came home drunk a few times a week and beat you to within an inch of your life and put cigarrets out on you for no reason. Protecting our kids is not just about stopping school shootings. This is whats upsetting me the most about this entire situation. The real problem is getting lost to rediculious comments like tedd's. You want to protect kids it starts with parenting and it also starts with understanding that there are kids that need to be protected. how about putting a trained psychiatrist in each school. instead of like in my school system here we have 5 yes 5 principles for a high school that has 1500 kids each on of those principles makes $150k a year....
I can tell you without a doubt that in some case's what happens to you as a kid absolutely does diminish your ability to make reasonable and sound decisions. In a lot of cases it is left to the child to take matters into there own hands as ADULTS.. to put these offenders away. That's why in may states the statute of limitations has been removed from cases of sexual abuse just like with murder. The case posted in the link below just happened. I know the guy that put this man in jail. he contacted my wife and I looking for help. He needed a lawyer to help him and he knew that we had been down this road before with another close family member. This case made national news. We put our friend in touch with several people and a week or so later it was all over the news. I can tell you this friend of mine will never walk into a school ad shoot it up. but he will also never be a real member of our society. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/2 ... 06545.html
If you want to protect kids THAN PROTECT THEM!! Not just from shooters but from all predators. Provide them with the resources to work on overcoming the bad that has been forced on them. More kids die every week from all types of predators than the amount killed in the school shooting. Nothing has been said about those lost souls! if 10 kids a day are kidnapped raped and killed or sold into the sex trade but spread out over the entire country no one ever here's about it. why is that? its because the problem is bigger than gun control and its staggering.. The problem get fixed by each one of us standing up and doing what is rite!

Good post Eli.
Pushing gun control is fashionable, easy and clean, not like sweeping up society's trash of child predators. Interesting point about Pysches in schools. Most (if not all) schools is administrator top heavy.
Ted sounds like a good candidate, with traits that anyone can support: honest, forthright, etc. He would be far from my choice as a President, although he embodies a lot of principles I admire.

good post ELI
BUT I totally disagree on one point Psychiatry in Schools
A public School counselor attempted to strong arm us into putting our son on Psychotic medication in third grade. At the time they were handing out Psyke drugs like MM's (1994 ish ) to any difficult student. We were forced to have a Psyke evaluation done to continue in the public school system. I'm thankful for a wife who did her homework and a stern warning from a friend not to put our son on the drugs. I'm Thankful we were able to pull both are Children out of public school system and enroll them in private School. Turned out he just needed to be taught how to organize his school work. That third grade teacher instilled in him how to be discipline toward his school work.
Yes i hear about how the drugs are miracles to some , but I can trump every miracle with a threefold living nite mare to others.
Psychiatry Drugs is a life sentence that ought not be handed out lightly
Psychiatry = Drugs

Ok point taken but that is only true for those parents who care and pay attention to whats going on..Like your self me and if I had to guess may be 20% of the other parents out there.. what about the forgotten and uncared for who stands in there corner? your kids have loving parents but what about the ones that don't??? That's the glaring question. I know that what I am saying can be uncomfortable and thats why no one wants to talk about it.. you want to see what happens when no one talks about it...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_Bradley 103 kids... and it got no where near the attention as the school shooting. A few people that I know are still in meetings and on going actions regarding this case... The problem is many people knew or suspected and said nothing!!!!
What happens when you know your kid has serious mental issues and instead of doing something about it you buy thousands of dollars in guns and ammo that could have gone to treating and taking care of the child????..He walks into a school and kills 26..The ongoing theme here is that the people who are supposed to protect, guide, defend and stand up for kids DONT!!! those that have the means to help make change DONT..and its blow over with stupid uneducated statements like tedd's..
We dont need shrinks in school? than who or what is going to start the change? Who is going to protect? Who is going to listen? Who can spot the signs? Have you ever looked into the eyes of a child that has been hurt in that way. How do you stop parents that don't care about there kids from having kids?
What does it take to get people to understand that WE!! perpetuate this ongoing cycle.. so what are you as an individual going to do?
Rite now as I type this I have 8 kids in my home 3 are mine.. the rest are here because there parents Don't give a shit where they are rite now. I feed them one of them i have to take to and from school because her mother and father can hardly be found. her mother will just drop her off in town and disappear for days.. She came to our hose the other day crying uncontrollably and telling us that her mother hates her and does not care weather she was alive or dead!! Her mom has 9 kids and is homeless her kids stay where they can.. But no one talks about it. I dont even talk about it as much as I should.....
her is the real question
What are YOU going to do to help the situation?

Unfortunately, I think a school psych would be so tied in red tape, they would be useless. I don't know any good answers other than raising my own children with love and compassion.

Re: Here they come , Senate after Guns
I have to respectfully disagree. More pschycologists in school is not the answer. All the schools are filled with psychologists as guidance counselors and most of the teachers have a minor in psychology of some kind. Pschycologists all want to dispense medications and alter a childs brain chemistry. Many psuchologists have gotten into the field because they wanted to figure out their own messed up heads and should no t be allowed to mess with anyone elses head. Most of the young people doing these shootings are all from the Barney type "I love you, you love me" generation. My childhood was no picnic. No sexual abuse but my father never thought twice about beating my sisters and myself for no reason at all. None of us are in jail, in the psych ward, or on brain altering medications. I have never been arrested or even finger printed until I decided to get my permit to carry.
What I see as the problem is that most of the kids today are being brought up in a weak minded manner. Most kids are being brought up too sheltered and don't know how to deal with life's reality and disappointments. No kid looses a soccer game anymore because they don't keep score. I'm not saying to beat your kids or put them in a situation where they are in danger to learn a lesson or tough them up but at the same time if a kid doesn't have some reality they will never learn to take responsibility for their actions and will flip out when they are not prepared to deal with life's reality.

Pyschologists can not dispense medication, to my knowledge. That would be a psychiatrist. Definitely too much medication imo.

Psychologists yes they do not dispense drugs , I do not have a problem with them most are against medication and they have to rely on skill to teach someone how to think better of themselves. They do however have the power to have someone committed for pskye evaluation i do believe.

BUT AGAIN!! you are left with what? do nothing? This is why nothing gets done..
The kids with good parents have nothing to worry about its the lost that continue to loose! NO ONE considers them. and no one stands in there corner.. The answer to every suggestion is always the same...(that's not the answer don't do that ) so nothing gets done and the ones that pay are the ones that always pay. So if the answer is not to put a shrink in schools than what is? any suggestions...?????
how about a shrink that is hired by a comity of parents (a board of parents) and can be fired by that same board. Not paid school officials. say a panel of 20 or more parents and he is hired by vote and fired by the same.?
NOT ALL SHRINKS ARE BAD! the end story here is there needs to be a way to spot early signs of possible abuse and serious mental problems. Unfortunately it takes some one who is expirenced to spot those problems..
so what the solution?

Re: Here they come , Senate after Guns
My point is - abuse has nothing to do with someone being evil and doing terrible things to others who are innocent.
I believe that anyone who is applying for the right to have a gun and anyone in their household who could potentially have access to those guns should be sent for an evaluation before being given that right.

Re: Here they come , Senate after Guns
I have to agree with Dan. Your statement assumes that a right is something to be "granted" or "applied for". The 2nd Amendment has already granted all of us (Americans) the right to keep and bear arms.topshop wrote:I believe that anyone who is applying for the right to have a gun and anyone in their household who could potentially have access to those guns should be sent for an evaluation before being given that right.
It does not govern the use (lawful or otherwise) of such arms.
