Direct employment I'd guestimate 750K, but if you consider the secondary jobs the industry supports (tooling, shipping etc) I'd think it would be another 400K.

My apologies everyone. I made this post last fall and forgot to circle back and share the results. A quick reminder about the background for this information. We are finding ourselves more and more needing to connect with DC legislators about key issues affecting the stone industry: OSHA, EPA, MSHA, etc. So the need to be able to articulate # of businesses, employees, and industry payroll is becoming very important.

So we reviewed NAICS codes (U.S. Census Bureau - 2007 information) to obtain data about the dimension stone industry ---- it employed 140,416 individuals (again, based on 2007 info). Brian Andre (ANA Granite - Flint, MI) was the closest with his guess of 126,113. Congrats Brian - I'm sending you set of our newest quarry posters for your showroom.

NOTE: this data is published every five years and the 2012 data will be available later this spring. Once we know the 2012 numbers, I'll circle back with you guys and send out another poster set to the person who was closest to the most recent information. Very soon the MIA will be creating a new landing page on our website to house industry statistics (collected from multiple sources).
