Had a fun night with Colby, showed him how to clean all the guns and went thru loading, unloading and gun safety on every gun.
It was really a fun night, had never done it before with him, but encourage you to do it.
Will go thru it with Kailin on the next oppertunity !

Re: Gun cleaning and gun safety night
Go through it again and again with both of them!!!
There is a lot of information (especially with multiple guns at one time) and that portion needs as much practice as the shooting, imo.
Good for you, Joe!

Re: Gun cleaning and gun safety night
This is an annual event in my home as well as conversations on gun laws and common sense. With every thing going on I like to feel the kids out on topics like mall shootings and so on.. it may sound strange but gun safety is important and so is staying safe in a situation where a gun is involved and your not armed.

Re: Gun cleaning and gun safety night
I can't wait to start teaching my girls shooting and gun safety.
They are only 3.5 and 1.5, so it won't be long.

New here, NRA pistol instructor and stone fabricator. I need to move south where the state doesn't hate gun owners.

A few years ago a guy that was married to my cousin was cleaning his gun with their 11 year old son. Blew a hole in him and killed him. He blew off part of his own hand as well.

It's amazing how many people can't be bothered to just check the damn chamber before taking their gun apart.

Re: Gun cleaning and gun safety night
I am sorry for your family's loss, but it sounds to me like basic gun safety was either not learned or not used. Both are irresponsible.Burkie wrote:A few years ago a guy that was married to my cousin was cleaning his gun with their 11 year old son. Blew a hole in him and killed him. Re: Gun cleaning and gun safety night
Burke, that is a terrible tragedy for your family. I am sorry that this guy was not taught better and did not act more responsibly..
Complacency and not paying attention are growing symptoms of our overstimulated society. Better safety is a personal decision. The same goes for heightened awareness.
In our small town, we have had 2 easily preventable deaths.....
2 weeks ago a drunk driver killed a 21 college student.
Last year paramedic was killed at an accident site by a driver not paying attention.
Both were human error and not caused by mechanically unsafe equipment. People need to be responsible for their actions.
