I ate lunch out and my bill was 7.88 and the tax was .77 cents. This struck me as odd, because our sales tax rate is only 7.25%
I think it is the extra 2.3% from the health care bill (ObamaCare). Evidently, there is a 2.3% tax on everything that has to do with a person's body, including food, medicine, clothes and a bunch of other stuff.

Tax collectors were asked to incorporate it with the other tax they collect ( sales tax). Retailer Cabela's has declined and adds a line item showing the new tax. On my food receipt the line that used to say sales tax now says tax.

How much is the average citizen expected to pay for corrupt politicians stealing our tax money and giving it to everyone, including our enemies? Where is the sense in this system of corruption?

every person, no matter of socio-economic status pays these taxes. What happened to no new taxes? Is this an unfair tax on the back of the lower and middle class? Evidently, everyone is too stupid to see it. Are representatives elected to represent their constituency and not their parties? Shouldn't there be a way we can vote directly on issues and by pass the crooks?

Interesting. I'll need to watch for this. Derek and I had lunch today, but the tax was normal for our county... 7.75%.
Sometimes incorporated cities have higher taxes than the counties they are located in. Maybe it was that?

Either way, someone needs to pay for all these new programs. I wouldn't doubt if the fed added a food surcharge.

I looked a little closer, and found that our tax on the lunch was actually less than it should have been!

The tax for our lunch should have been 8% for the incorporated city of Placerville.
The county tax is 7.5%. But we were charged 7.75%, so that was strange. I think they forgot that the rate went up in January. We saved a whopping 4 cents from their mistake!

Dan - You will also see this Obamacare tax increase on things like toothbrushes (which are now considered a medical device) toothpaste, aspirin and OTC pain relievers, in fact all OTC meds will be affected by this tax, there will also be an added tax on home, vehicle and asset sales.

Obama said he would only raise taxes on the rich, which would raise revenues by $32 billion a year, but has sought to increase taxes by $630 billion....I'm not sure where the people who voted for Obama thought the rest of the remaining $598 billion was going to come from, but as I'm sure you recall, I did my best to try warn these people they were being lied to...apparently I didn't yell loud enough.

This unfortunately will not be the end, it's only the beginning of the multi-front, liberal assault upon America, keep your eyes open, it's coming with a vengeance, and it will not stop until there is nothing left of what America is supposed to be.

I have had more people offer up cash for payment for their tops in the last 4 months than in the last 7 years. some not even wanting a discount. They say they would just rather pay cash. And all were business owners or self employed.

I wonder if people feel they have taxed too much and are just gonna balance their own budget.

Like many others, I'm making sure I pay no more in tax than before the increases. Many ways to accomplish this.

The underground economy is growing... especially in CA. When people feel they are being scammed and they have no trust in gov't they will alter their behavior accordingly.

I heard Obama was golfing with Woods this weekend. With Obama's natural lying ability he was able to convince even Woods that he beat him.

My wife and I were laughing ourselves sick over B.O.'s golf outing. Our 1-1/2 day family-of-four ski trip cost us a whopping $700 including gas, lodging, and food. Obama's taking Air Force One to Florida costs $180,000 per hour to operate! I'm sure that was necessary for "diplomacy"......
