Just a quick post on how Remnant Locator works and why it is working so well here in Oregon:

First its free for fabricators.

Second, there is no brokerage fees or middlemen

Third, it doesn't require posting, listing, or updating remnant inventories


When you need a rem, you log in and enter the basic info and hit submit!

Remnant Locator automatically sends and emailed remnant request to all the other fabricators registered in that city.

It also includes the sender's contact info so the fabricator with the requested remnant can contact the fabricator that needs it!

If you haven't joined Remnant Locator, we do have Greensboro as a city and I've got a great friend who owns a fab shop there, you guys could be the pioneers in the area:)

I am not far. Would your friend happen to be Len Malve? Honestly, when I need a rem I just post it in the back room for all the members and those who have it hook me up. We have been doing this for years and lots of guys have saved money from buying slabs.

Heck just the other day Troy asked for a splash of "Tiger Eye" semi pre stone (you know the 13k slab stuff) and got hooked up (even for free if I recall). It works well for those who give back and not just take.

I am sure the rem locator works great as it should. Everyone should be hooking people up in their area if something is needed. There is enough to go around.

Like Dustin said, most of the guys that know me just call to see if I have a rem, even a non SFA shop. However, I will be willing to register to help out the cause.

I looked at the registration page and I have a question. We are just outside of Hartford, CT. However, I hooked Alex up in NYC and we do most of our work from between Boston and NYC. New England is kind of small. I have driven up North of Boston to pick up a remnant in the past and I have driven South to New Haven. My question is, if I select Hartford, what are the odds that the fabricators in Boston and NYC get the email? What is the range these emails go out?

Hey Dustin,

MOre or less this service works the same way by region, submit your request and its emailed to everyone in that particular region who has registered.

Right now, we've got around 75 fabricators on the network in Portland, and it generates 4- 8 requests a week. Many many slab purchases avoided, many rems sold, and minimal time invested to make the requests...

It has challenges as each market and region is so different, we're in the first phase, so we anticipate making lots of improvements as people make suggestions:)

My buddy in Greensboro is Pete Lane, I'm going to have to bug him to register so theres at least 2 fabricators on the network!

You make a great point, and with all the feedback, I see us needing to change this to a zip code / mile radius search platform.

Its funny, you get so deep into something for too long, and real obvious improvements never even cross your mind!

Thats whats so great about the SFA mindset of being a community...really cool.

Guys, honestly its pretty humbling to have your support, I really appreciate it.

We've found that slab suppliers are the best channel for us to promote new registrations in a region.

So if you've got a favorite supplier, I'd be happy to contact them, send them literature to pass out and email blasts that can go to the other fabricators in your area.

The key to this working so well in Portland is a healthy, strong network of at least 35+ fabricators receiving the requests.

So pleeeeeeaaaaaaaasssssse be patient as it will take a bit to build the registrations/networks in your areas.
