For those of you that run splash machines or flat polish machines, what is the max bar pressure that you go up to? My gages say that you can apply up to 6 bars, but I never go more than 4 because I am worried that too much pressure will cause the motors to wear faster or become damaged.
I naturally run my machine with the proper amount of bar pressure to get the right polish, but was just curious as if you can apply to much pressure or are the machines equiped to actually handle 6 bar?

Re: Flat Polish Line Machines
Why would you want/need to run at that high of pressure? We use ours at a little less than 4 bars.

Re: Flat Polish Line Machines
That's what I figured as well. I was just curious. I start mine at 3.2 bar and slightly increase up from there to a little above 4 in the final. More or less just enough to get that nice polish.
I really don't understand why they have such a high bar pressure on there.
Thanks for the feed back!

Re: Flat Polish Line Machines
Probably the same reason that your speedometer goes to 120 mph. It can do it, not sure why or when it is required, but it is nice to have when you do.
Or it could be that to run effieciently the motors need more capacity than they actually use, I honestly do not know.

Re: Flat Polish Line Machines
Our Lara runs from 1bar on the lower grits and up to 2.8 on the finer grits. The Lola is about the same.

Re: Flat Polish Line Machines
What pressure are most using on the chamfer head?
Since only one grit is touching the stone on the chamfer, what grit produces the best results?

Re: Flat Polish Line Machines
Brian,
I am running bricks for the chamfer (Salem Stone) 400 grit for the front and 220 for the back. Pressure is around 3 -3.5 bar at most.

We use 400 stones front and back on our Flying Flat about 3 + bars of pressure.

Re: Flat Polish Line Machines
3.0 to 3.5 bar using bricks on Montresor machines, drop to 2.5 using resinoid diamond wheels. This is true also for ES. It will vary some with different materials, but these are good starting points. I always urge that a book be kept listing feed rates and pressures for whatever material is being run.
