I want to run some new sample pieces. And would like to make them onto an octagon shaped piece showing all the edges we will offer.
I was told that it takes at least 4 200x200 pods to hold a piece correctly. That would make my sample piece way too big. Is there anyway to do this? If so, how?

Re: 2nd dumb question
Thats a tough one but if you have a couple fences from blick you might be able to do one side at a time rotating those fences as you go! If i was doing it, I’d shoot for 7" flats on the octagon! That way I'd get 1 200x200 and 2 70x150 under it along with those fences to stop it from pushing!
Most importantly though is to pick a soft stone! The easier it cuts the less of a chance your piece is gonna move!
Still a Very Difficult piece to pull off! Someone else on here might have a better way of attacking it! Good Luck

You could also leave the part as a long rectangle to fit more cups underneath and cut 5 of the 8 sides with your more aggressive shapes (ogee, waterfall). Then cut the octagon free and use Brett's method for the remaining 3, hopefully less aggressive, shapes. That should lessen your chances of lifting the part and the fences should stop it from twisting.
If you have Blick backsplash clamping cups, I'd use one or two of those to lock down the part and run each side, rotating the part between each run. We've cut some pretty small parts with the clamps. Although, I have not tried what you are describing.

Re: 2nd dumb question
Make eight individual pieces, each with a single detail. Build a cabinet with an open front with 100# full extension slides and use it as a sales display. We have about 20 of these out in different locations. Some have all builder stones, some have all exotics, some 50/50, depending on the clients. They make greta displays to sell off of. Make your life easier, not harder. Enjoy your new toy.

Re: 2nd dumb question
I have made sample pieces using 2 200x200 blicks, actually, I think it was one 200x200 and one 200x300. With ogee, triple pencil, F+V. And I fillet the corners with the FB.
Just don't use a saudi stone. They don't work well with marginal hold. New Sta. Brazilian gold whatever worked for me.
If you are doing an 8 sided piece, just make a fence with other pieces of stone on pods on the non edge side. I have done that with tiny vanities.
Make like 3 or 4 at once, because it is gonna take forever to change tools out and run one edge at a time.

Re: 2nd dumb question
same as chris
200X200 and a 200x300 for a 24'' circle sample in ivory tusk. IF you are cutting the small part from a large part it is cake. Meaning. If you have a 1/2 slab, chuck it on the machine and hold it down. use only 2 pods on the octagon. The only time the hold on the octagon will be tested is right when it breaks loose form the 1/2 slab/
Pull the 1/2 slab off and machie the edges. In my opinion you should be able to hold a part with two pods just for edging. But then again, i have used the above method to run a vanity with only 3 pods when I run out of pods on a large set up, some times and the vanity is coming from the same slab as the kitchen. Please don't tell Jerry

Re: 2nd dumb question
This is not an answer to your question....just my opinion...
Don't bother.
We have dealers that had that octagon sample piece with all the edges and they HATED it! The custy always felt they couldn't get a real feel for what it would look like
So we made 16" x 20" rectangular samples of each edge. Routered all the way around it with a radius on the outside corners. Then we cut that rectangle in half so it made 2 samples out of one piece (16 x 10). We then made a wooden display unit that allowed for each edge sample to slide in. This works if you don't have a lot of room for separate cabinet displays. Custy's love this! Our dealers love it, too!
Here's a bad cell phone pic of what we did

Re: 2nd dumb question
I was thinking about making one of these for our conference table center piece and I cant imagine all of your profiles are CNC. I'd put a Raked, Chiseled and Square Edge on it and thats three edges your CNC wouldn't need to touch. Might have to make it a decagon but Just a thought!

Carmine,
That is exactly what e do, only we use 25" x 20". everyone loves them.

Re: 2nd dumb question
Chris if you have some blick clamps you can chase your edge with the clamps. Set your piece up with the clamps opposite of the edge you are running, run the whole profile set then move your clamps and run your profile edge. Just work your way around the octagon. This is very time consuming but will work

Re: 2nd dumb question
Yeah that would work. But I think il just do as Dan and Carmine have said. Way easier. And I am owed a favor from a cabinet guy
