Hi I am looking at the leica s910 and wondering if it is suitable for templating it looks like a fantastic machine that offers a route into digital templating without spending a fortune, or is there a reason to spend the extra on the 3d disto ?

The S910 can be used for templating, however, the workflow would require some CAD knowledge to be able to post-process the DXF output file. Keep in mind that the accuracy of the S910 is 3/8" at 30', whereas the 3D DISTO is 4/100th" at 30'. Also, the 3D DISTO is more stable on the tripod, as it is a motorized solution that reduces the possibility for human error, whereas the S910 is a manual operation. If the accuracy meets your application needs, the S910 might be the best fit for you. If you are looking for more accuracy, then the 3D DISTO is your best bet.
Also, we just came out with new software for the 3D DISTO that allows for 3D visualization of the templates you are making, which is an improvement of the previous version, which showed more or less a cross section of the points. Contact us if you need any additional information.

Thank you for the reply's it seems I need to save up a little more and get the 3d disto looking at the s910 accuracy over 10m at 10mm that's too big a margin for error.
I am based in Scotland though so may need to look at one of the distributor's over here.
