Anyone check out the big new miter clamps that Integra is now carrying?
Check them out in the Suggestion Forum. Guy put up a Youtube vid of them. They are sick looking. Although my guys would jack them up in the first week!

Re: Miter Clamps
miter clamps, seriously?
good god what has this world come to.
flip the piece over, face up, use masking tape. masking tape is the original miter clamp
Nick will tell ya.
one guy holds the miter in place while another guy quickly applies several pieces of tape down the stretch of the edge.
right there its held in place tightly. now flip the miter up on top of the piece and apply glue. flip it back down in place and wiggle it a bit till its tight.
its ghetto, but works perfectly.
those clamps looke expensive.

Re: Miter Clamps
So does your avatar.
There is no question about it, those do look pricey. But so is a cnc, we used to grind ogee edges by hand, it worked, but it was messy and time consuming. Clients loved the results, then we went to a router and clients still loved it, the only difference was time savings and less skilled labor required on our end. These clamps are a natural progression, just like any technology, you just don't have to plug it in.

Clear Plastic packing tape... it will stretch and hold the piece tight at the same time

Re: Miter Clamps
Sooo, the duct tape makes and keeps the miters square while the glue kicks? What about the transition to the next seamed up piece? If the degree of the miter is not exact to the piece that seams up to it, you have alot of work coming up.

Re: Miter Clamps
I like the silver clamps they show second. I can think of 1000 things wrong with the black ones they show first. Of course can think of alot of things wrong with the tape method, but that seems to work well for alot of you guys so what do I know. I would get the silver ones if they were $25 a pop, I am going to end up making my own clamp design and giving a metal fabricator beer to help make it happen. It has been on my list of things to do , it would be similar to the silver one, but better and more ugly

Everything is relative

Re: Miter Clamps
We have always used tape too, but don't do a lot of the edge. If I did, I have to agree anything to dumb it down is helpful. My guys seem to have a way of using the specialty tools for door wedges and such if they haven't used them in a while....

Re: Miter Clamps
The Mitre Clamps we show in the video are from two different mfg's. One in Germany and one in Australia. I think everyone can guess the German design....
In Europe, the mitered edge is so common, that the clamp is solution to a problem rather than an idea that is being pushed into the market. I agree that the black red model is a little much which is why we went with the smaller silver clamps.
We have a number of customers in Europe that are using them now in place of tape because it is a much better way of clamping a mitered edge. Simply put, these clamps will give you a tighter, more consistent bondline than tape. They are easy to use, very well built and strong enough to take out a bow in material if necessary.
Tape works well enough when the cut is perfect and the material is completely straight.
By the way, that "shop floor" is my office....
