I agree, handle it once. Stark 5.5 crusher comes with a conveyor belt that can be placed off the side of your saw and then the material goes directly into a super sack, so you REALLY only handle once.

Re: What to do with small remnants
Not Rems, but the fed ex guy asked me Tuesday if I had any granite dust/slurry I wanted to get rid of. I said yea!!!! How much do you want and why? He replied I will take all you have. Ok. Why I asked? He said something about a gardening web site was raving about the mineral value in granite was good for his plants in his garden. He went on and on way !! Over my head but just think, we may be throwing thousand down the drain.
any one heard of this?

Yes, landscaping companies will purchase crushed stone, you can sell them for about $50.00 per bagsugargrovemarble wrote:Not Rems, but the fed ex guy asked me Tuesday if I had any granite dust/slurry I wanted to get rid of. Re: What to do with small remnants
I looked into it years ago when I was dumping all the dehydrated "cakes" of dust from my filter press. I could only find a few web entries supporting stone dust used as a beneficial additive for gardening. It seemed to only directly benefit certain types of plants ( I don't even remember which ones), and wasn't a widely accepted soil amendment for all gardening. Another accepted use for stone dust is setting stone and brick pavers. Now just figure out how to package and sell it for profit - we all know how much profit is in stone products....sugargrovemarble wrote:Not Rems, but the fed ex guy asked me Tuesday if I had any granite dust/slurry I wanted to get rid of. I have cut some 12*12 and 12*24 and made an outdoors patio, planting grass as a grout line. Looks great, lots of work too.
This year I think I'll take some pics. To show clients, maybe make a little money, and use those scraps?

I just bought a small crusher that turns it into gravel, helps to fill in back yard but looks better than sink cutout graveyard

That's pretty cool.
Brain starts spinning on this.
We toss out quite a few thousand pounds of cut offs a day.

I would want the crusher located across the street for sure. Are they really that loud? MSRP 5.5 with conveyors and catch shutes??

Re: What to do with small remnants
I'm digging that machine. Maybe talk a landscape guy into buying it and getting the stone for free. We don't pay a lot to get rid of ours, but that's one less expense.

Yes, they are loud since its basically stone pieces in a hollow metal box.sugargrovemarble wrote:I would want the crusher located across the street for sure. Are they really that loud? MSRP 5.5 with conveyors and catch shutes??
The 5.5 with 1 loading conveyor + 1 exit conveyor and 1 sorting screen is $54,271 USD on today's Euro exchange rate.
I can email you some additional information if you would like.

Re: What to do with small remnants
So if we say 10 year life thats $450 a month in payments + power cost + maintenance and repair (that I imagine is substantial due to the beating it takes) Not for me thanks.wadeegnor wrote:Yes, they are loud since its basically stone pieces in a hollow metal box.sugargrovemarble wrote:I would want the crusher located across the street for sure. The Machine has a lifespan of anywhere from 10-15 years, so its pretty easy to recoup your expense (depending on what you are paying for waste removal) in 3-5 years and if the crushed stone was then sold you would not only effectively neutralize that expense but actually create revenue, in turn "paying off" the machine even faster.

Re: What to do with small remnants
I STILL say ship it all to Sam Irvin, in Pisgah Forest, NC, and write it off as a business expense.
Two sweet ol' gals brought me 7 sink cutouts today, from their granite job (which I had referred to my former employer, before I was replaced with min-wage dudes, guess I'll never see THAT commission...
) and after a few hours turning them into cutting-boards, lazy-susans and such, I'll turn their "scrap" into 10 elegant small-item granite finished pieces, and be able to pay half this month's mortgage.

Re: What to do with small remnants
Guys dont be mislead by a salesman on here. They always focus on how you can recoup your money
A good frien of mine owns a few real big rock crushers. Maintenance nightmares to say the least. Sales people kill me
You will never make enough selling this crushed stone to even justify the electric and maintenance.
