Cry for HELP!! Kitchen faucet hole in wrong place??

I just had my kitchen granite countertops installed. The company owner and I agreed the kitchen sink and faucet would be centered in the cabinet. I have a Blanco 70/30 divide sink. The installers cut the faucet hole at the divide and NOT at the center of the sink like I believed it would be. That said, when you stand behind the sink the faucet is 2" right of center of the cabinet. It is also 2" right of the center of the sink.
I contacted the owner and he is saying they installed this correctly and suggested I reach out on this online forum for advice. PLEASE take a look at my pictures and tell me your thoughts. There is a window directly above the sink which is centered with the cabinet. So to me, when you look straight on at the faucet, it is very noticeably off centered to the window and cabinet.
What is traditionally the way a faucet is installed on a 70/30 sink.....at the sink divide OR center of the sink and cabinet?

Re: Cry for HELP!! Kitchen faucet hole in wrong place??
Those sinks typically have the faucet installed on the divider, not the centre of the sink. From your photos it appear as though the faucet was placed correctly for that specific sink design. Your sink cut-out is also correctly centered on the cabinet.
On equal bowl or single bowl sinks it is more typical to drill the faucet hole centered on the cut-out.

Re: Cry for HELP!! Kitchen faucet hole in wrong place??

This is the digital file provided by Blanco for the sink. The recommended faucet hole set back from the sink is 2.25". If you move the hole to the left 2" you also need to move it back 1". There doesn't appear to be room between the faucet and splash to accommodate moving the faucet hole back. We recently installed the same sink and our faucet hole is placed in the same place. The hole center is provided by the manufacturer in the digital file.

Re: Cry for HELP!! Kitchen faucet hole in wrong place??
Your faucet is placed correctly and we do sinks and faucets like that all the time. Probably not even enough room to center the faucet on the sink cutout and the faucet wouldn't reach into the small bowl very far. All that being said whenever I template a job with a 70/30 I try to make sure the homeowner understands the faucet won't be center on the window. If you are happy with everything else on the job I wouldn't sweat the faucet location it looks great and there is nothing wrong with the way it was done. A little education before the job is made goes along way in helping customers understand what the final product will look like.

I could not agree more...educating and discussing this with the customer is very important. I learned that the hard way. Unfortunately, my installer (owner) and I did not have a good rapport. My interpretation and we discussed this is it would be centered on the sink so that is what I expected. Overall, I am 70% pleased with the job. I just wanted him to consider replacing the one section to center this but he made it clear "he did it the right way" so I think I am stuck in a difficult position.

This is absolutely done correctly. No need to go any further with this.

"Correctly" is a vague term. It isn't "correct" in your eyes. Thus the questioning.
But....That is how we do it every time. So it is "correct" to me. We center over the sink divider. You have a big bowl / little bowl sink, so it is already visually off center from the window. If you move it to the left you will run out of room behind the sink (as was pointed out above) and you also risk the faucet not reaching into the bowl on the right.

If he remade the piece, The faucet would still have to go where it is. A remake is pointless. Express your disappointment with lack of communication so he can improve his process and be happy he didn't try to center it in the sink. That would have been a problem.

Re: Cry for HELP!! Kitchen faucet hole in wrong place??
The faucet is properly placed. By moving the faucet over 2" to the left, it would crowd the faucet to the backsplash. The back bridge gets progressively smaller as it moves to the left.
My question is........that if you are so particular that you want the faucet centered, why not order a 50/50 sink?
THAT WOULD BE SYMMETRICAL.
All things consider, your request is "unique". I doubt any fabricator would do this any different.
Nice looking kitchen, enjoy it.....as is.

Re: Cry for HELP!! Kitchen faucet hole in wrong place??
To answer your last question... the faucet is traditionally installed at the divide of a sink.
I have a 70/30 sink in my home with that same placement. If you centered the faucet, then it would not reach into the small side very well. You want the faucet to have equal access to both sides of the sink. There is also not enough room behind your larger bowl to place the faucet further to the left, so it really is a moot point with that choice of sink. Your fabricator (a professional who does this for a living) did what he felt was best, and that is ultimately what you pay them for.
My advice is "enjoy your new granite!" It looks nice and the faucet placement is totally normal.

Re: Cry for HELP!! Kitchen faucet hole in wrong place??
In defence of the fabricator on the charge of "miscommunication" here: When he said both the sink and faucet would be centred on the cabinet, he might not have been aware that it were to have been a 70/30 sink and answered under the presumption that it would be a 50/50 or single bowl. In both of which cases he would have been correct.
If the question from the homeowner only had been: "Do you centre your faucets and sinks on the cabinet?" or "I would like both my sink and faucet centred on the cabinet", the fabricator would have been correct in his reply as well.
Sometimes clients forget that they are one of many and that not all fabricators are able to recall all the details of any single job at the drop of a hat.
There are normally more than a few sides to any story.
Again just my 0.02.

The faucet hole is where it needs to be and should be. It is done correctly.

Re: Cry for HELP!! Kitchen faucet hole in wrong place??
I have to agree with Dan R (and that almost never happens) that if you wanted a faucet centered on the sink and cabinet you needed to get a 50/50 sink. There simply is not enough room behind the sink in the center of the sink especially with a stone backsplash anyone can see that.

Re: Cry for HELP!! Kitchen faucet hole in wrong place??
The hole is exactly where it's supposed to be. I have a question that nobody else has asked, has the fabricator been payed? If you are holding his money for this or the sink support you are doing so with no reason. You hired a professional to do the job now trust him as he knows the industry standards. This is the kind of things that we all face daily we do what we do every day then after doing it hundreds if not thousands of times the same way along comes a customer that has unrealistic expectations .

Most of the time it is either lack of communication between customer and shop or a salesmen type who wants to please a customer for the minute to make a sale and will agree to anything to get a deposit check.

Please keep in mind we don't mean to be beating you up with quick "HE IS RIGHT" answers, but its frustrating to most of us as we have all had these moments where customers don't see the reasoning, or more importantly, the dynamics involved in getting a slab of granite to your home and installed correctly.naturemanmh wrote:I could not agree more...educating and discussing this with the customer is very important. Otherwise, it looks fantastic, and you will be very happy with the kitchen later on. Pay the company, cook your first meal, and all will be forgotten in a month.
