Absolute Black Earth quake tolerance ??????????
So this is a off the wall question. We are working on a project for a client in California and they are wanting tolerances for how it will hold up during an earth quake. Does anyone have any info on this or has anyone ever been asked this question. We are using Absolute Black.

Is this for countertops or external cladding on a tall building?
Welcome to the land of fruits and nuts.
Maybe MIA has some information on that? Almost a year ago they combined with Building Stone Institute as a joint venture.

Re: Absolute Black Earth quake tolerance ??????????
It seems to be an odd question and probably irrelevant to the actual use and utility of the actual countertop.
I would venture a statement that includes the granite being 1000's of years old and withstanding all the earthquakes of history.

MIA's Design Manual V8 speaks to Seismic Considerations; 05 Granite VIII sec 7.0, and speaks to the stone's connection to the building rather than the stone itself.

Dave is on the money. the granite you are putting in is not structural.

I would think the method of installation/adhesion would have the biggest impact. Depending on where it's being installed you might be able to use a flexible setting material. Laticrete has a flexible thinset.
We're in Southern CA, can't recall earthquakes ever being a major factor in the stone decision. BA would be much more tolerable than the majority of the other stones we use.

Thank you everyone. It is for a memorial wall. The city was asking for it. I am hoping this will solve the matter.

I've installed a pretty good sized Veterans Memorial in Atascadero
Black Absoute3 cm panels over poured concrete stem walls.5'x5' panels- we used Laticrete 310, and had the engineer specify stainless steel rods- which we drilled and anchored with Simpson epoxy. We're in earthquake country, and I sleep well at night. Kitchens & backsplashes- nothing but silicone. Showers, fireplaces- vertical work - 310.
