Annoying Neighbour

Hi Guys,

We just recently moved to a new fabrication facility in Toronto and our neighbours have been complaining about a "smell" since the first day. We were asked by the landlord to insulate the neighbouring wall and obliged, but the complaints persisted. its definetely not the dust or the adhesives

Now its to a point where, every time we cut the landlord receives an email. And is now threatening to go to the ministry!!..

Was hoping someone could tell me if they have any grounds to take action, and secondly point me in the right direction to see if there is anything we are legally required to have, i.e. dust collectors??

I assume you cut a lot of quartz, and yes it stinks and is likely not healthy in the long run.

Air quality test in hand would be a good thing. Just because it smells doesnt seem to be a legitimate issue, but I doubt you would get to renew your lease.

Ask Hanstone down in London about what sheets they might have on air safety. Their factory gets inspected a lot from what a buddy of mine said. He was a tradesmen of some type that had to go through crazy safety protocols to walk their plant floor.

Do you actually smell anything yourself? Honestly he may just be giving you a hard time because he think the stone is unsafe and polluting the area. Or maybe even the noise. Give him a free counter top that will quiet him down

I had this problem at my last building. Quartz, Granite it did not matter what material. Are there other tenants lined up against you besides the one complaining? In my case the other tenants in the complex did not want light industrial in the complex. The landlord let me out of the lease and gave some money back. If they are dead set against you it will end up in court and the lawyers are the only winners.
