NEW GRANITE Dolly OTLVISE
you guys keep telling me to look at the OMNI site... that cart is NOT on my list but uses a shoe to lift the product of up to 1000 lbs and is the same size shoe on my clamp that you think should be made larger. So that's why

Re: NEW GRANITE Dolly OTLVISE
The several carts out there of this design use a similarly similarly sized shoe. Not sure what a few inches would add to the equation, probably, very little.

Re: NEW GRANITE Dolly OTLVISE
A few inches more on the shoe would provide a better footprint in particular for balance IMHO for lifting. But my point was referencing your point on how you thought my unit wasn't strong enough but yet essentially the same size shoe lifting a 1000 lbs is acceptable? Keep in mind I have a patent on a shoe in a clamp, its new and was in the pic.
You as well as others have said over n over to look at Omni so when I do then you ask why did I?
Completely understand the fact that anyone in this forum may doubt the strength of my unit. That is essentially predicated on the fact that NONE of you have seen it or used it. The clamp head(its new and patented) is half inch steel and 3.5 inches in diameter, the head is lockable which prevents rotation, removable, stackable and more. It can be controlled with a torque wrench or cordless torque style drill. Great for setting them in place if you were laminating and avoid wrist fatigue while at the same time being faster and more uniform.

Re: NEW GRANITE Dolly OTLVISE
John,
You are too defensive. I never specifically identified the shoe as the the part that looks lightweight. You make many assumptions and it is annoying. Instead of constantly defending and comparing, you may want to ask for specific feed back. Evidently, you are not really interested in that. You are on a quest to reinvent the wheel for our industry on your own. Good luck with that, your mindset is too little too late, IMO.

Re: NEW GRANITE Dolly OTLVISE
John, I am no inventor or even an engineer, but I fail to see how a slightly larger shoe would add any meaningful balance during a lift. The balance of the lift is determined by the positioning of the weight, which is still on the center shaft, where the actually lifting is done and will always be concentrated at that point no matter how long the shoe. Granted, there exists a minimum reasonable size, but after that reasonable size, diminishing returns escalate at an exponential rate, making moot the point of a 18" shoe vs a 12" for the majority of the pieces.
The size of the lifting platform would effect stability during lifting, imo. The larger the footprint, the better the stability all other factors being equal.

Re: NEW GRANITE Dolly OTLVISE
I would suggest we kill this thread & move on to a better use of our time.
It has been nice seeing everybody reply so nice but let the marketplace sort it out now.
Just a suggestion with no mean intent.

Re: NEW GRANITE Dolly OTLVISE
John,
Dave has a good point. The SFA forum should not be used as a continual product design review board for manufactures. The SFA furthers our industry by sharing knowledge and expertise with fellow members, and by exceeding standards in their own work… AND by occasionally helping manufactures come up with better tools, BUT, it is clearly an association of Fabricators helping Fabricators. We as sponsoring manufacturers should be here to help them do that. It is great to occasionally ask for an opinion (just like SFA members do when a fellow fabricator needs help with something), but this thread has become like the Energizer Bunny, and, if you haven't noticed, it seems like some here are a little annoyed by it (and that is definitely not in your best interest). Just trying to be helpful.
Keep plugging away at it and when you have something you feel is awesome for the market....... offer it for sale.
