for the past twenty five years or so we have been doing an "eased" edge on the top rim of our under mount sinks.(1/8 th round). in the last few years we have gotten more and more repairs for chips on the edges mostly from pots and pans hitting the rim. my question is, what are most fabricators out there doing for an edge on the under mount sinks?

I do the same
More radius = less chips
More radius = less chips

Re: profile on undermount sinks
I've always done a 1/4" bevel on my tops - No complaints from the customers. My brother in law still managed to chip my sinkhole at my house though.
As a repair guy I used to get lots of chip repair work off other fabricators work in my area who love the eased on stones like Ubatuba. I think some of them have smartened up and are making the profile a bit bigger because I get few calls for chips these days.

Re: profile on undermount sinks
We give our customers the choice of square, 1/4 radius, or bevel and this is usually determined by the edge profile selected. If they don't care, we do 1/4 radius as we never get call backs with this one.
Now we only started doing this since got cnc 6 years ago, before that everything was square.

Re: profile on undermount sinks
We do a 1/8" to 1/4" radius depending on how big the chips are from cutting it out.
Never had a customer say jack about the sink profile. And have never been called about one. I've often wondered if 1/8" radius is the most functional choice. I would be fine doing a 1/4 bevel but people seem overwhelmed with all the other options involved (color, sink, faucet, edge profile). I'm not in a hurry to add any more to the list.

Re: profile on undermount sinks
At least a 1/4 to avoid the call there's a chip in my sink.

Re: profile on undermount sinks
The trend is moving towards larger radii or bevels, and for good reason.

Re: profile on undermount sinks
I have always used a 1/8 - 3/16 round and honostly have never had an issue with chipping. It usually occurs wherever there are sharp lines and angles. Make a point of reducing the transition between radius and face either by cnc or hand polish. Removing the sharp line will also reduce the chipping reports.

Re: profile on undermount sinks
Our "standard" edge profile is the 3cm "A" profile, so we run this inside the sink cutout as well. It makes for a very forgiving edge when it comes to impacts!
