Hello sir/madam,
My name is Chris Greenbank, I am 26 years old and come from Manchester, England UK and have been making marble and granite worktops for 8 years. I am engaged to a young lady who lives in Pennsylvania, and our date is set for 20th of April 2013. The plan is for me to move over to the states as soon as we get married. Although it is around six months until the big day, I just wanted to get to know some people close by who I have something in common with and stay in contact in the event that a position becomes available. My fiancé is a flight attendant, so we are fairly flexible with regards to location if an opportunity was to arise outside of PA. I have been employed since the age of fourteen and working weekends in high school. I have worked for a number of companies over here in England, been a part of many exciting projects and for the past 2 years I have been working for a company called Stylestone in a town called Macclesfield. The area I am strongest in is finishing. I am hard working and enjoy working as part of a team. Start and finish times are irrelevant to me, if a job is going out the next day, I am there until it is finished. I thrive off a challenge and I think that the fact I was trained using "old school" methods makes me a stronger asset. This training has allowed me to do things such as cutting out sinks by hand as well as polishing them. These are skills that are not often a necessity anymore because of new technology. However, what happens if your CNC breaks down or encounters a problem just hours before a job is supposed to go out? Skill and craftsmanship come in, I possess both of these assets. I enjoy profiled work, especially if it is a double profile i.e ogee on the top and bullnose on the bottom. There is something rewarding about the end result in a job that has exercised your mind and your skill set; as opposed to a job that is flat polished with chamfered corners. In closing my current boss, John Ruehorn , is a member of The Stone Fabricators Alliance.
I would be thrilled if you could get back to me and also tell me a little about "the way things work" over there. I look forward to hearing from you. I have put together a small PDF file of a few examples of my work, which I can send by email.
Many thanks,
Chris Greenbank

Re: UK fabricator seeking US employment. Preferably NY
I'm farther North than NY, but minutes from an International Airport. It's much more affordable here than in NY/PA as well.

Cheers for the heads up Curtis. I have spoken to Jess and it seems like NY would be a difficult commute as the flights to BWI are always full and Jess is based out of BWI. Somewhere in or close to Baltimore would be ideal.... Perfect even.

Maryland , or Virgina , better than PA IMO ,, do your home work
anywhere near BWI airport , you should have no problem finding stone cutter work

I am about two hours away from NYC in Connecticut and was thinking of adding another person to the shop. My closest airport (20 minutes) is BDL.

Re: UK fabricator seeking US employment. Preferably NY or BW
Thank you very much Mr Lago. I have introduced myself to Mr and Mrs Qualey and we are now friends on facebook in order to keep in touch. I want to try and plan a visit to the states either at the end of the year or the start of next to go and meet different fabricators on the east coast. We are very busy at work though and I would imagine we will be up until Christmas now so I am unlikely to be able to get the time off. Thank you for your help

Just found a free worldwide calls and texts app for iPhone AND android, it's called vonage. I thought this may be useful for contact.

Here is one of our most recent projects at stylestone. The bottom half of the island is made out of 4 pieces. I bonded it all together and blended it all in. I hope you like it.

My thoughts are with my loved ones, friends and all you wonderful people on East Coast of the US. I am hoping that this storm is over quickly and that it does not do too much damage. Stay safe everyone.
Re: UK fabricator seeking US employment. Preferably close to
Dialing out of the US and Canada the code we use is 011+country code - so for the UK that would be 01144.
Dialing out of the UK is 00+country code and since the country code for the US is 1 you would have to dial 001 to call someone in the US.
The initial code for dialing out of the country varies by country and is not always the same.
